Best Mic's to use Direct into a L1 Compact without T1/Etc

Hey folks, new to this forum. I plan on picking up a L1 Compact this month as I am starting to do coffee shop and small bar gigs.

I dont have any dynamic vocal mics (I currently and playing out without any amplification and just getting the ball rolling). I am familiar with audio gear (do recording at home - have Sound Devices interfaces, several Neumann condenser mics, etc - but nothing for live use).

I have little experience but once did try a Heil PR30 (similar to the PR35 handheld version) and liked it.

I know if I want the most minimal solution for acoustic guitar and voice its important I get a mic that pairs well the L1 Compact's mic input from the get go. I have read some comments of some people feeling the L1 compact can get fatiguing with some mics.

My thoughts are from experience that the PR35 is pretty open and condenser-ish within its pattern so perhaps this would come through really fatiguing with the L1. Also not sure about its rejection. No real Idea here.

What mics should I look at as a solid slam-dunk starting point to go into a L1 Compact. I will probably just buy bling and get a feel for my first live vocal mic and then go from there. Budget is up to $200-ish used. Voice is male baritone-tenor range singing rock/blues (think gary moore still got the blues/etc).

Hi shawntp,

Thank you for joining the Forum.

I have had very good results with the Audix OM2 and Audix OM3 microphones with the Compact. The tight polar pattern of these microphones has made it very easy to use them. They are both hyper-cardioid microphones.

I'll be back to you in a couple of minutes with at discussion where I have other microphoens I've tried.

Here is a link to
Microphones that I have tried with the Compact

I haven't experienced the sense that any particular microphone is fatiguing with the Compact.

Here are some ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ♭ ♮ ♯ for you: L1® Compact in the wiki

I use an Audix OM-5 for those occasions and have found it to be an excellent match.

Hello: I have found from my years of testing vocalo mics both wired and wireless, the best "lead vocal mic" for the money is Electro voice wired mic with N767 head. It is awsome.... You can do so much with it ability to sound basssey as well as tenor... Excellent presence..... $129.00... Sam Ash, B & H photo...
