To anyone,

I wanted to buy a Sennheiser e855 to match the preset on the PAS.

I got an email saying they are discontinued.

Is there another Sennheiser mic that will basically match the PAS preset?

Is Bose going to add any "new" presets soon that will include a different Sennheiser mic?

Thanks

Steve

srmbr,
Our guitar player had a Sennheiser, it was a dynamic cardioid like the e-855. It was way too hot for PAS, could never get enough gain before feedback.

The Sennheiser headset mics, however, are extremely feedback resistant.

I think it is a great sounding mic otherwise,he used it for several years with our old 3-Tiered gear. I'm sure it would sound awesome for low-level gigs.

Steve,

My guitar player and I use the Sennheiser EW-100 headset mics (wireless), gives us a lot of gain before feedback and sounds very good on the SM-57 preset. Also they allow us to be very expressive on stage. But since it is such a small transducer, you cannot expect the quality of the e855, or the KMS 105.

My bass player uses an SM-58, which is very feedback resistant and fine for backing vocals.

What are you using now?

I demoed a Sennheiser E845 and used the Beta 58 preset and it sounded GREAT. Might be worth a try.

I use a Shure Beta 58.

This the mic I use in my band.

I was looking more for soloist type mic...if that makes sense?

Mark, that was the Sennheiser mic I was going to try.

Thanks both for your inut.

Don't overlook the Samson Q7 if you are looking for a good handheld..wired or wireless.

I just added the Samson Stage5 w/Q7 (wireless) to my setup. I think I like it better than my Crown headset which was over twice the money.

The Samson is extremely feedback resistant, gives my vocals a nice fat, rounded sound..and you don't have to eat it.

All this for about $100. One of the two best investments I have made this month. The other is a GPS system to help me get to gigs. But, that's another story.

The Audix OM5 is also a very good mic - some have said it is better than the Beta 58 for a soloist. YMMV.

I use the Audix OM5, and love it to death. The Bose preset gives it everything it needs to bring it to life.

Compared to the SM58 and Beta58, it has greater clarity and presence, IMHO. It's also every bit as warm sounding as the Shures.

The Audix is EXTREMELY feedback resitant, but it is quite a bit more directional than most vocal mics as well. Some singers find this unusual, but it works fine for me and my bandmates.

I'm an OM5 convert as well. Love that mic. I think dansgold's point of it being very directional is a good one. It really matters where you put your mouth with that mic, but once you're in the zone it's sweeeeet.

I too love the OM5, especially for vocals. Very easy to use, gets real loud and stays clean sounding at high SPLs.

I found a musician buddy who let me borrow his Shure Beta 87A and Sennheiser e855.

My wife and I think the Shure is better.

Now, if I could only find an Audix OM5 for a sound test.

In your opinions, the Audix is better than the 87?

Steve: Don't know if you had seen my input on this subject a while back (guess not!)....I use preset #18 for my e935. It sounds great!

What Preset did you use on you L1 for the Samson Q7?

The sound of different mics is purely subjective and preferences are very much down to personal taste and the quality of the singers voice.

I have the Shure SM58, Beta 58, Beta 87a, EV ND 967, ND 767 and the Audix OM6.

I started off many years ago in the band with an SM58 but when I went solo I decided to try some different mics.

On the recommendation of my local music store I tried the EV ND967 and really loved it.

A really great vocalist friend of mine told me that the best vocal mic ever was the Shure Beta 87a, so I bought one but still preferred the sound of the EV for my voice. The Shure is very prone to feedback also whereas the EV's are not so.

I tried the EV ND767 at a trade show last year and really liked it, that is now my main choice for my vocals.

This week, prompted by several references on this forum I bought an Audix OM6 (there was no option to try it in the shop) and I've been rehearsing with it indoors for a couple of days now and I really like it and will do some side by side comparisons during my live shows at the weekend. The Audix does not have such a great response in the lower end as the EV and although this does reduce any boominess it doesn't allow you to use the proximity effect to get a really rich low tone but I will reserve my final judgement until the weekend.

I can see myself really liking this mic as it has a sweet sound and is very stable throughout the range.

Hope this was helpful but you really need to try before you buy if you can. Most places here in my part of the UK will not allow you to try mic's before purchase as they don't hold demo models.

Lasr nights gig provided my first opportunity to compare the Audix OM6 with my EV ND767 and I have to say that the EV just has the edge for me.

It has a little more presence, brightness on the top and slightly more bottom than the OM6 although the difference is very subtle.

I will do a few more comparisons when able but for now the EV remains my first choice for vocals.

Hi Eric'sson,

I too, still prefer the sound I get with the ND 767 over that of the OM5 that I currently use.

There is a fairly significant difference in feedback rejection, with the OM 5 coming out on top, for that reason I tend to use it for all but my quietest gigs.

Keep the OM6 in the bag for the time that feedback becomes an issue, it might save you some frustration.

O..

I have the Sennheiser 945 that I use with the 855 preset. It sounds awesome and I never have feedback issues with it in spite of the fact that we are in a small location with some pretty loud sound at times. I tried the ND767 and hated it. It was way too hot and too prone to feedback for me.
