Hey Mike,

That would be the "Tom Munch signature model" SM 58.

Seriously, I tried several and the 58 sounded the best to me. I have not tried the the om3 or 5 yet. I will when guitar center starts carrying the compacts.

Well Rick,

All seriousness aside, and I LOVE razzing Tom about that..

Several years ago I wanted to get my lead-vocals self (ME) a Christmas present in the form of a special mic, and got a cool black KMS-105. I like it fine, but in all truth, I never thought it sounded, thru the Bose, levels better than the Shure, but I still used it.

When I started doing solo, one of my gear iterations did not allow phantom, so I pulled out one of my three trusty 58's, and it worked fine.

I still wanted something a little special, and wireless, so I treated myself to the wireless Beta-58, and just LOVE it.

It's ALL good, as the cliche goes - cliche but true!

Mike

PS - to complete the silliness - ONE of my 58's, and accompanying stand, I spray painted GOLD, for use by our Elvis dude when we accompanied him last summer. I kinda hesitated to DO it, but I went ahead, and you talk about COOL! This thing is ridiculous...

Hi Joel

I received the wired 767a in the mail today and got it to sound like an SM58 in about 5 minutes. I now await the wireless 767a UPS Friday and hopefully it will have it sounding like the SM58. ( replacing my wireless SM58 which is about 10 years old). The EV wired is hotter than the SM58 and you have to stay real close to the screen or right on the screen to make it really perform. Why did I buy EV767a's and make them sound like SM58?. All "your" fault Joel! LOL! OH, and belive me Tom Munch is feelin the heat! LOL!

Just a heads up guys!

If you purchased a Shure SM58 anytime during your lifetime please be notified that there is a class action suit pending. ( SM58 vs Tom Munch ) IF you desire to be part of said class action suit then send in your SM58 as evidence against any and all Munch mic's. Please respond to ClassAction Suit Shurrrrrrrrr SM58. SoSueMe Law Firm.

Thank You

Tom

Just for the record I ordered a new wireless mic and it's not a SM58. Also ordered new wired mic which is not SM58. See? I do value your input very much and have decided to try "change" that I hope I can believe in! LOL!

Keep up the good work!

I haven't tried that in ages.
Even let the Parrot Heads do their announcements and meeting part of Wednesday with it.

I think it should be interesting, given they usually have no finesse or ability to speak into a Mic properly, despite repeated advice and comments and they love to walk in front of the speaker column.

The EV767a is much more forgiving, but we'll see.

Man am I ever tempted to pick up an L1 Compact.
I really wish it had the darn T1 digital cable, even though I already have the separate power supply.

I guess I see their point, that a lot of people will use the system as is, but it's looking like a reasonable size market is developing for existing L1 users with T1's, for smaller venues and a backup system.

Hi Joel

As soon as my local guitar Center has a LIC in stock I am going to drive up and buy one. I will use it on small keyboard gigs with my tonematch if I like the sound. I also will bring it on bigger weddings gigs as a back up to my ModelII 2/bins/tonematch. I will then sell my old heavy stuff to pay for it. I think the LIC is the answer to not only the small gig but the backup issue.

ps....I get my wireless 767a tomorrow UPS. It will be interesting to see how long it takes me to tweak it to sound like my SM58. ( Hi tom)

Not to bust bubbles or add fuel to the fire but………………
I am a big reality TV fan. Last week on Celebrity Apprentice they had to come up with a jingle. There is country music star Clint Black in a fancy New York City recording studio and he is singing into a…..Wait for It……... an SM57. Now who is going to argue with Clint Black or reality TV.

Now I WOULD use a 57. That's a completely different beast in my experience. As long as you're good at not popping it on your plosives you can get a really useful tone out of a 57. there's a wonderful bite & clarity there.

Hi ALL

Just a follow up! Got my EV 767a wireless yesterday. Read the directions and somehow got the correct frequency on the receiver and had no sound on mic until I matched the frequency to the mic. ( And I thought it was supposed to be "automatic scan" ).Hope I don't have to do this every time I play a new location and it searches for correct frequency) My old SM58 was just plug and play! Anyway....it sounded real tinny until I got it to sound rich like my SM58 by fattening up the low Eq's and reducing the mids and highs. Sound pretty good now. But the mic feels plastic cheap compared to my SM58 which I have in a casket next to the EV. I named it Lazarus because I got a feeling it's gonna be resurrected someday.! Some day I will learn what my Dad used to say.....'if it aint' broke.......don't fix it! In Las Vegas they don't build the hotels form the winners. In microphone sales they don't sell mic's by staying with what works.....'unless you buy Shure>

Hi AJ,

I think as you get used to the EV767A Wired and Wireless, it will continue to sound very good. If you are initially testing at home, vs at the gig, I am sure you will remember there is no comparison to the live environment.

I initially felt the plastic case of the wireless was a little so, so, but I find it has a very comfortable feel to it, especially the contoured shape in the middle. Using it for 4 hours at a time it is quite nice. Mine are about 3 years old now and no problems. I get at least 2-3 gig's per 9v battery, which is non polarity sensitive. Heck I've changed them right in the middle of songs (assuming a little instrumental break). Hit that "Mute Button" on the T1 and never miss a beat.

I've used the wireless Senheisers that The Village gig's provide and they feel heavy after a few hours. If I recall, the Shure's are reasonably light, but feel a little bulky.
