I have four PAS for my 10-piece wedding band. 2 behind the band and 2 in front as a PA. I need a wireless mic, mainly for speeches and toasts during the beginning of the night. One of my 3 lead singers will use this mic also, and I ultimately would like to expand and get 2 more for the other two singers.

I have narrowed it down to two systemes: Electro Voice RE-2 PRO w/967 (HTU2PROD967) and Shure PGX24 w/Beta 58.

Does anyone have experiences with the EV RE-2 "PRO" model receiver? My understanding is that this comes with a separate set of antennas and rack mount kit, also let's you exchange the mic capsule to the 967. As for the Shure, it lacks the Volume control on the back (not sure how important this is), but I always loved the sound of the Beta 58. I did read though that the EV 967 seems to have the most GBF.

Also, has anyone bought a wireless system through Amazon or eBay? As much as I want to save a few bucks, I would really like to get it from GuitarCenter or SamAsh so I can return if it doesn't meet expectations. The only problem is that neither stock the system with the Beta 58 or 967 capsule.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi,

Forum regular Joel has written a review of the

EV RE-2 Wireless Microphone

I hope that is helpful.

PS PAS is now L1®

I really like my Beta 58 - mine's the SLX - "middle" one - I've never had a frequency conflict or range issue - works great, sounds great...

Thanks for the info. I saw that review. It was helpful, although I am trying to find out about the 'PRO' version with the 967 capsule. I also just spoke to a guy who has the Beta 58a with the SLX - He said he never had a frequency problem or feedback issue when opening open the gain due to a guest speaker holding the mic at his/her chest..

Any deals on the SLX w/Beta 58a? I keep seeing them at $639..

I have both the Shure Beta 58 and the EV ND 967 wireless mics together with Shure Beta 87a and EV ND767, I use the ND767 exclusively now as I find it far superior to all of the other mics I own (including wired mics such as the Audix OM6)

The RE-2 Pro is not available in the UK (much to my dissapointment) but my standard RE-2 is in constant use and is really great, the main difference between the two units is that the Pro version comes with a rack kit which is an extra for the standard version and the Pro version has a better quality mic body which will allow the head to be changed for a 967.

If it where my choice I'd go for the RE-2 Pro with the 767 head (as it comes).

Eric, I'm fascinated with your decision, since I have all those same mics, (altho not the wireless models any longer), and can't settle on which I really like the most. I also have a Sennheiser 441, that I've sometimes used too, altho on my saxes, not for vocals.

Can you describe as best you can, why you feel it superior to the Shures, & the other EV? I realize that mics for voices are always a very personal & subjective matter, as the variables are many, from the way our voices are, the style of music, the settings we perform in, and then what sounds "good" to our ears. But I am curious to know your take on those mics, & how the 767 came out as champion....
thanks..
