I am a brand new PAS owner (two subs) as of today and spent the better part of the day working with the system both with and without my VoiceLive unit. At first, I wasn't really happy as I was getting a lot of hiss. So much so that I unplugged it and went straight in. Glad I did that to hear the natural sound of the system. It is great. However, I still wanted to sort out the VoiceLive unit. Of course, I plugged the thing in straight away without zeroing all the settings first and forgetting it was set to work well with my old three-way system.

I finally figured this thing out.

First, you really should run it using the TRS to two 1/4 plugs as a channel insert. That, coupled with turning the master on the remote down, the trim on channel one all the way up and the channel volume on the remote up from there for room volume produce the least amount of hiss for me. I also backed of a bit on the output of the VoiceLive unit itself.

Of course, I guess I could go back now with those settings and try running it without the insert setup, too and see if that does the same thing. Anyway, that's how I got the hiss to get down low enough that it didn't tick me off anymore.

Frankly, I still imagine I will be using the PAS straight and either not using the VoiceLive at all or using it sparingly for the few songs I want quiet harmony on or a slight bit of reverb. I am very pleased with the natural sound of the SM58 direct with the VoiceLive bypassed.

The Helicon looks amazing. Most of the TC gear we have listened to sounds very fine (Same company?). The Voice Live has "pitch correction" too. So, your manager can sit in the audience and make you sound cool when you go off-key.

The tc electronic crew that works on the pitch shift algorithms are ex-Eventide guys... they formed their own group called Wave Mechanics... so the pitch shifting in the Voice Prism and other tc gear is pretty awesome.

I own a Voiceprism and it truly is an amazing piece of equipment! For recording, it's an indispensable tool. Very lifelike. I bought the footswitch so I could start using it live, but the PAS sounds so great dry that I've yet to add any effects to it in a live show. Kinda sucks that I have this awesome processor but I'm reluctant to use it live! Damn (wonderful) PAS! Ha! Wink

So sorry, not sure why the board let me do this, but apparently I hit "edit" on the first message in this thread and now it is showing up for me with my message and me listed as having edited it, but under the actual thread starter's user name. HUH?

Here's my message again in case you can fix the original message (and check your software settings for the board!)

Hilmar sent me this link months ago. I recently watched it and thought it was impressive.

Thanks Kyle, another great link. This is one of the things I enjoy most about this forum, links to things I would never find on my own.

Mike, I just purchased a VoiceLive as well - can you elaborate on the cabling? Are you going from the PAS's Insert on Channel 1 (with a TRS) to 2 1/4" going to input and output on the VL?

Like this:

MF TRS to 2x1/4"

So how do you like the VoiceLive? Are you having any hiss problems? It looks cool. How well does the pitch correction work? I'm wondering if it sounds real or digital? Thanks.

The Tc-Helicon voicelive is amazing!

Built tough, with countless settings and adjustments.
It was my first choice for effects for my PAS and i was right. It can sound "digital" on some presettings but on most settings excellent. It could also be me trying to get use to my four voices(harmony) of "ME!" eeeeeek!

Highly recommend botht the PAS and TC-Helicon Voicelive

You guys are costing me $$$.

I went out and got the voicelive today. I've been playing with it ever since. I really wanted to not like it. I wanted to take it back to GC. But...

Wow, this thing is great. For a solo singer/guitarist like myself, it is a miracle piece of gear. Very natural sounding on lots of the presets. I also find the interface quite intuitive. Clean sounding. No hum.

Okay, no more gear for a while. Promise. (fingers crossed)

Earthworm - Glad to hear another positive note, since a VoicLive is being shipped my direction as we 'er' speak! Looking forward to it even more now.

I think you'll be amazed. I wanted to go with something less expensive like the Digitech Vocal Performer or the Akai Duobuddy. But I play with serious gear (e.g. PAS, Olson guitar) and the Voicelive is serious gear. I'm so glad I didn't screw around and buy something else. Oh, the reverbs sound nice too. I am not finding it hard to find presets that fit my songs. I find one I like, press a few buttons to change keys, and I'm good to go. This is going to make my shows more interesting and professional. The harmonies do not sound hokey and genuinely sound (for the most part) real.

I just spent another couple of hours with the unit in my studio. I can say definitively that this is the coolest piece of kit I own next to the PAS. It adds so much to my overall sound. Really an amazing piece of technology. Now I just have to be careful not to overuse the harmony function.
