Question:
If I was to purchase a Bose PAS in America and bring it back to Irleand, what sort of electrical power converter would be necessary or would a simple plug adapter be sufficient?

Hello Martin,

Unless you play in the US as well as in Europe, you might not want to work that way. A simple converter would certainly not be sufficient. You would have to log a heavy transformer.

First of all: we have not tested yet whether that works well. Typically, that would be an excellent cause for all sorts of unwanted hums and buzzes. And equally important: the US system would not comply with (or be tested against) European safety regulations (CE, TUV, etc.)

The European version of the system is going to be available in Europe in September.

Let us know what kind of instrument you play or how you would like to use the system. And definitely let me know how we can help you further.

Regards,
Frank

I sent my US-PAS to Austria, bought a step down transformer and used it without any problems for the Austria part of my spring tour. It will stay here and I am looking forward to use it again in summer and fall.

cost shipping: USD 500
cost duty and taxes: EUR 500
cost transformer: USD 80
Total Cost of PAS in Europe (currency conversion with xe.com -

EUR 2.510...

Tip 1: buy the step down transformer in Europe, I took mine in the checked baggage and had trouble at each of the airports, because the thing looks really funky on x-rays)

Warning: No Bose Guarantee coverage (don't know for sure, but I'd be surprised)

Warning: the box for the power stand is too big for US Postal regulations for Air Mail, needs to be made smaller - I did it, but it's a major pain in the ***)

Essentially, what I think many people are looking for is "What's the best way, using step down transformers and perhaps power conditioners, of using USA L1 systems with European Voltage?".

While I appreciate that we may lose some warranty cover, as many users are indeed already doing this, what's the closest to an "Approved by Bose" conversion system that we can buy?

Many thanks
R

I am currently living in Canada and just about to buy an L1 system. I will be going back to Europe in a years time and want to know if the internal transformer can be changed. I did this with my main bass amp coming over from Europe. The company (EBS) sold me a new internal power transformer which I had fitted and works fine. I am sure that Bose must be able to provide this option.

Hi British Bassman,

Over the last couple of years we have had a few requests similar to yours and the response has been the same. The internal transformer cannot be simply changed and any modification by the end user will invalidate the warranty.

It would be far better for you, if possible, to sell the 110v powerstand to another Canadian musician and buy a 220v unit when you return to blighty. The passive radiators and B1s can be freely used on either system and so will not need changing.

Best wishes, Andy

I travel the world with the military and I always take my US electronics with me. In fact I have my L1 conected to a 1k volt transformer and it gives me outlets for a cople items more. No problems yet. I picked up the transformer for $50 in Germany.
