Hi, weepete:

From what I found online about that mixer, it does not appear to have a mono output.

There are some alternatives for how you use it:

For mics inputs, pan them all to one side (e.g.: Left).

For any stereo inputs (e.g. mp3 player): use two channel strips, e.g.: the Left input only, for the two outputs from the stereo device.

Then, you take only the Left output from the mixer to the L1-Model II analog input. That would be a balanced 1/4" on the end that connects to the L1. You can either use the XLR output, or Monitor, or even the Insert or an Aux output from the mixer -- but it is only one cable connecting to one (e.g.: Left) mixer output.

Typically, no. You need a mono source for the L1® Model II Power Stand analog input. But here is a workaround.

I found the
SoundCraft EPM6 Mixer User Guide

I hope this is the mixer you meant.

On page 11 it describes the kind of cable and connections you need to run from the Mix Output to an external device.

I have highlighted the relevant sections for you in yellow.

Please understand - the L1® Model II analog input is MONO unbalanced. So the source you present must be mono.

To get a mono output from mixer you can:

  • Pan all your mixer inputs to one side (e.g. LEFT)
  • Take the Mixer output from that side (e.g. LEFT) and run that to the L1® Model II Power Stand

Does that help?

Edit: Oops - Dan and I were typing at the same time. I type slower and didn't see his reply until after I posted this.

I use notebook sized mixers all the time with my Bose L1 Classic.

Typically I pan all the vocals hard left. Then run the Left XLR out of the mixer into Ch1 of the BOSE L1.. selecting the needed preset for the mics we use.
Then all instruments get panned right. The Right XLR output of the mixer goes to Ch3 on the Bose. Then I run the iPod (break music) into Ch. 2 on the BOSE and set it for the Dance Music preset (is that #58?).

Done deal!

ok , now up and running, however I just found out there is no reverb on this mixer, is it really needed.

Panned the mic to the left fully but it sounded awful.

Maybe what you really need is the Bose T1 mixer.

The L1 reproduces very precisely what is put into it. The T1 mixer has a variety of "presets" for different microphones and instruments; one of them may be "just what you need" to get the sound you want.

The T1 mixer also has a variety of effects which can be added -- but the experience many folks report on this forum is that one is better to first find their best "clean" sound (no effects) before adding any reverb or other effects (since such effects tend to mask or hide the "real" sound).

I can't think of any reason that using Karaoke discs would preclude using a T1®.

You could run the output of the Karaoke player into T1® Channel 4/5.

Click the picture for more details and connection options.

Was there a specific issue with compatibility?
