I got three of these today from Wallacher. First I have to say this is a brillant design that requires no modification to the system, no drilling, no BS, they are absolutely awesome and I'm thrilled to have them. HOWEVER, the nylon screws were simply a bad call, guys. No ifs ands or buts about it. I went to re-adjust where I had them and the heads came right off of the screws. I called John (who was great to deal with) and he said I could heat up a screwdriver, push it into the plastic bit remaining, hold it there a moment and then be able to move it out. I am going to the hardware store and getting proper, metal screws. I understand that the screws are not really even needed, but there for an extra bit of security to snug up this "friction based" hanger. I also understand they switched to nylon screws from metal because some people were concerned that metal ones scratched the Bose PAS.

On the "scratching concern" let me state this, "Who cares?" It is in the back of the tower, it is flat black and any scratch could be easily covered up with a touch up pen, a Sharpy, or just left there. Who is going to see it anyway? Better to have the ability to use the screw in real life than to have a screw head break off immediately if you make the thing a tad too tight like I did. It's psychological, too. Do I really want to hang my $3k Gibson acoustic up with a plastic/nylon screw? No, I don't. I'd rather have a scratch than be worrying about a nylon screw breaking. And with multiple guitars of different shapes, its always going to be possible that you'll want to move where these are on the system, especially when you first get them. Go back to metal screws, guys. Also, even though I sorted out how to install them pretty quickly, it would be cool if there was a little instruction included with the hangers, especially if you are going to include fragile nylon screws, with a warning that says "Don't over tighten screws, head will break off." This is an otherwise PERFECT hanging solution. I'll likely buy one more, since I understand I can get up to four on this thing safely.

Yeah, that was me. I really didn't like the metal screw. Blame me.

The clamping force required to hold a guitar, even a Les, is not that much so you really don't need to crank it down. Personal preference I guess. I want to keep my L1 in pristine shape and the nylon screw holds without cutting through the paint.

We do agree on one thing, the hanger is GREAT!

LOL, Steve is so honest. That's one of the reasons why I love working with him! Big Grin

I think the nylon screw can be OK if it wasn't so long. Luckily, this is a hardware store part and can easily be replaced.

Well, I appreciate the honesty and didn't intend to point fingers. In real-life use gigging, these things will get dings. I really see how a flat metal screw is going to scratch anything, it isn't like it is a pointed wood screw. Part of the problem, again, is there is nothing that ships with the hanger to say "don't screw in very tight or you will damage, even break off the head of the screw" which will initially, leave you "screwed" in a literal sense. I have not tried John's suggestion of a hot screwdriver melting into the remains of the screw stump to get it out, but the fact that I will even have to do that kind of tarnishes what is otherwise a kick-*** experience with a great product. I'm sure I'll get some comments about this pole that now looks like a coat rack at the show tomorrow night. Big Grin

So my two cent, go back to metal screws, and include instructions on installing the hanger, including thoughts on where you might want to place them on the pole, how high, how far apart, especially when using two or more. With instructions and a proper, road-worthy screw, this is the best innovation for the PAS I've seen since rolling gig bags (my next buy, I guess).

Oh, I know you were not "pointing fingers", but I didn't want John to feel bad when I was the one pushing for nylon. The beautiful thing is that the threaded insert he used takes a standard 1/4-20 bolt (1/2" long min) that any hardware store in the world will have in bulk.

This sounds like another kind of guitarist debate -- nylon vs. steel. Big Grin

I appreciate the "let's agree to disagree" vibe.

received the three that I ordered earlier this week and finally had a chance to install them last night. Found it a breeze to set up, but need to play with positioning a bit more to accomodate a Strat, acoustic and Mando without contact with each other.

As for the Nylon screws, I don't see a problem with them as yet. The plates fit snuggly in the track, so the set screws are providing minimal support at best. As a test, I left a full scale electric bass hanging on one overnight, and the hanger has not moved a bit in 14 hours.

Nice addition to the PAS that provides an added bonus -- No more guitar stands to haul to gigs!!!

Hi:
I ordered two of these thingys and they showed up on Friday afternoon. I mounted one on the back of the top post and I have to say it works really well. I'm not concerned about breaking the plastic screw (as has happened to one individual) because my hanger is located right above the top of the bayonet, so the bayonet helps to support the hanger, in case the screw tension by itself is not sufficient, etc.

Anyway, it works like a charm. Now, one less guitar stand to haul around.

Oh...and did I mention that the sound at the venue was simply amazing....again!

It's good to be spoiled rotten with such a superlative sound system!!!

John,

I'm interested. How about some photos of your new stuff? I couldn't find any on your website.

John,

Ditto on the pics. Although the thought of hanging my laptop off of the side of a mic stand gives me chills Eek, I haven't seen the holder yet.

OT: Speaking of incredible inovation, I guess I'm the only one here to have not read the T1 manual yet. I was fiddling with the T1 lid, and noticed the screw/clip on it, that obviously was for something. After noticing a very familiar shape in the molding, I tried clamping my mic-stand bar inside the lid. BAM! LOL

That's just so handy, and so typical of Bose. Things like that, the guitar hanger, etc., help make this thing incredible rather than just very, very good.

Anyone else who is also just waking up Red Face, check out the lid! (Or read the manual, I suppose...if you must...)
