First, I have been reading a few threads and I know I need to do some research. But I just found out about this through a friend (who has cost me more money than I should have ever spent) LOL! I have a TYROS keyboard and my husband and I do a duo. I work a lot of country clubs, corporate gigs and parties. I really don't need mega amplification cause if I do those gigs, there's usually a sound team. Right now, I have scaled down to a Fender Passport for most jobs, but that unit assembled is hard for me to carry and is bulky. About how much does the bass unit weigh? Does the "tower" attach in 2 pieces ? Looks to me like I can carry the whole thing in my Honda trunk!! What type of feedback issues do you have? Currently, I run one speaker as a monitor aimed toward me and turn one toward the audience. Not ideal, but it works. Also, does this sysytem work okay with AK 57 mikes, cause I have like 7 of them and hate to buy a new mike. Thank you! Be nice to me, I just turned 50.

Bose L1™ System PS1 Powerstand = 35 pounds B1 Bass Module = 28 pounds L1™ Cylindrical Radiator Loudspeaker (the Tower)(splits into two pieces) approximately 16 and 14 pounds each.
While you should not have a problem with most microphones - I'm not familiar with an AK 57. Can you tell us the full name, make and model (or provide a link)?
Yes, you should be able to get the whole system into a Honda trunk.
Feedback shouldn't be an issue. There are always exceptions but if it is just you, your husband and your Tyros, things should be pretty simple. What does your husband do in the act?
Happy Birthday.

I am sitting here ROTFLMAO! What does my husband do? Okay, here's a hint. Single female musician meets successful businessman who is president of a company and has benefits. He also can sing and carries all the heavy s***.You think I'm crazy? Reality is, that he's a great singer and plays a little percussion and guitar. He is one of the best natural harmony singers I've ever heard. I've played in bands for many years, but right now I've got a great duo thang going on. Problem is...like you said...I have to break the Passport into pieces when I have to solo. I had a nice Yamaha system before that...oh, but gee back in my rock days I had the first Yamaha Electric grand in the US (really!) and the huge spider speakers. Those mikes are Shure 57s, the classic old rocker (me) mikes. But they are like Hondas, you can roll over on them with your car and they still work. I'm not a high tech mike girl cause my singing is strictly bar. But I rock on the keyboard! but I'm so freakin tired of carrying equipment, etc and this system looks like the answer to my dreams. just like a smoking ban in clubs, lol. I could be a lot more specific about my husband's contribution to my life, but will refrain at the moment. LOVE your pics, btw!!!

Hi llindac. I am also in Ky near Lexington. There are several acts around using these great Bose systems, and I am sure we could find a gig you could visit to check them out. My next gig is at a private club, but I will be doing a public gig Oct 13 & 14. As popular as the L1's are around central Kentucky, I am sure there would be someone in your area. The Bose has this old man gigging more because now I don't mind hauling the equipment. It all goes in the trunk of my Camry including my guitar and a small fan. If I can help, let me know. Respect

Hi Col Andy. Too late, I ordered on from Bose this morning, lol. I've had 2 "sound nerds" as I lovingly refer to them tell me that I must have this. I play a lot of private stuff, too, my fun job is playing the calliope on the Belle. I also do lots of their smaller gigs and that always means hauling stuff up the steps, a real pain. Yes, I'm excited- they are shipping it express for free and I'll have it Tuesday and hope I have a good sound for gigs on Thursday and Friday. Another plus is that I'm not going to worry about cords everywhere! What will I do with my case of duct tape now?

Well, I got it today and I am a bit concerned as the power cord doesn't seem to be making a great connection to the base. Not worried if it's the cord, but if it's the base, it's going back. The sound is awesome. However, I can't get used to NO reverb!! Either can my hubby. I can run my mike through my TYROS for effects, but there's only 1 mike input. So...he is refusing to sing till I get some reverb onthe thing. I like the #13 preset, which sounds very 70'ish. Anyone else have ideas? I have never had a separate mixer or reverb system, so tomorrow, I need to do some hunting. Hey, I'm into scaling down, it needs to be tiny. I love the way my keyboard sounds through this and can't wait to take my "stick and brick" to gigs this weekend. Anybody have an idea for a CHEAP and SMALL reverb unit?

Hi llindac, the keys player in our band uses an Alesis Nanoverb, small and cheap, and uses the channel 1 insert to hook it up. I think you'll find that you need very little verb at the gig due to room reflections.
Hi LLindac Do you know if your L1 came with the 2nd version of the presets? I play a PSR 3K and was using #5 and #13 in the beginning...and, like you, missed my reverb. Then I downloaded the 2nd version of the presets and am now using #55 which sweetens the bottom end. #57 is just a bit too low end for me...but its not bad. I will occasionally change a setting for a particular venue...but #55 is my main squeeze at the moment.
And, as far as reverb, a little Alesis or Behringer mixer sounds like a good and inexpensive option for you and your husband. However, the more you work with the L1, the more you may realize you don't need as much reverb as you think. Eddie
Hi LLindac, My friend Joelle (vocals) and I (vocals, 12 string acoustic) use one L1/B1. I own a Yamaha 01V digital console which has two digital effects processors. Before purchasing my L1/B1 this June, we used two EV SxA100 for monitors and two as mains. At that time we did use reverb. The first time we used the L1 we turned the reverb off on the 01V. Yesterday we played two gigs at which for the first time we did not use the 01V. Vocals in channels 1 and 2, guitar in a BOSS GEQ7 into channel 3. We simply let the room provide the reverb. It's been great so far. Then again, it also depends on how one uses reverb.
I use an SM58 with preset 14. My voice is upper baritone. Joelle (alto voice) uses a Behringer XM8500 with preset 15 (maybe 16). This mic is a super cardioid and is hotter than the 58.
If you have time, have someone scan thru the presets while you are singing. I prefer to do it while signing accapella and the EQ flat on the remote as this gives me a better sonic picture. You can make notes of what you like and dislike about each preset as this can help narrowing things down faster in finding your favorite preset. Once you choose your favorite preset you can then tweak the EQ on the remote. We both had to dial down the low EQ to deal with "P" sounds.
Remember that sound is subjective; the singer should be happy and comfortable in how they hear their own voice.
With the L1, we are able to mix our voices as needed with mic technique. When we used monitors, I would too often unknowingly overpower Joelle's vocals.
Last night was my virgin experience, and perfest because it was an 80th birthday party at an assisted living home! I heard the air through my teeth , the balance was perfect. After spending 3 hours borrowing and setting up an effects unit that didn't work, I panicked, but you are right, it didn't need reverb. I also borrowed a Shure Beta 87 mike....ohhhh I WANT one! Really makes the difference..my husband is convinced of that, too ! Tonight will be a test...stuffy room, low ceilings, sound challenging. Great crowd, though, so I'll get an honest response. Thanks again for the tips and thank you BOSE for making my job so much better!
