Sorry for this "SOS" but this is a last minute thing and I'm skipping the part where I should go read the manual, lol. I play on a steam paddle river boat frequently and I have a gig this Friday. They have a lot of engine noise, so we have to plug into their system so that people in the back and on the top decks can enjoy the music. The input jack is a regular speaker jack. How do I connect my L1 to this?

Hi Linda, could you be more explicit?

Do you mean the female version of this?

Can you get a little more information from the people on the boat? I think we need to know, in as much detail as you can get... exactly what is on the other end of the input jack. Is it an amplifier, mixer, speaker distribution system? Make, model - details details.

yes, it's the female end of that. They used to have a female jack with a mic (3 prong) input, but I don't think it's there anymore. I wish I knew exactly what the system is...I believe it's a separate mixer which the captain turns on in the pilot room. He makes announcements up there that can be heard all over the boat. With my old PA, I ran a speaker cord through one channel through the connection and used my monitor channel for a speaker beside me.

Hi Linda,

There really isn't a way to do a 'speaker' line out of the System because it is all integrated. (Which is why there is no wiring required for speakers).

I'm hoping that the jack that you are seeing is really a line level input, and there is a trick for handling this.

Do you have a mixer?

I'm right in the middle of something and will be back online in a couple of hours to finish this.

Hi again Linda,

I read over your earlier posts and can't figure out if you have a mixer, or how and what you are running into the L1™ except that you have a Tyros and a mic.

We could write for hours speculating on different ways to do things under different assumptions, so let's not do that.

  • Can you contact the people on the boat and find out what inputs are available to you?
    - XLR
    - 1/4"

And what is on the other end of the wire attached to that input jack. More detail is better than less. Make/Model of any equipment would be very helpful. What do other people plug into that jack? A microphone or ...?

  • Then we need to talk about what you are connecting to the PS1 Powerstand.
    For example:
    - Mic to Tyros
    - Tyros to PS1 Channel 1
    - Husband (?) to PS1 Channel 2

Are you using Channels 3 or 4? If so - how?

  • and finally - do you have a mixer and if so, what kind is it?

I wish this could be easier, but there is not a single, blended, line-level or speaker-level output that has the signals of more than one channel (except the digital output, but that's probably not useful here).

So you will probably need a mixer, unless the people on the boat can give you more than one input to their system. If you have a mixer, please tell us the Make/Model.

I'm going to be offline tomorrow until at least 3:00pm PST so I may not be around to help you before you have to leave for your gig. That doesn't mean that others won't be available, just that you shouldn't wait to hear back from me.

If you can get all / most of that information together, you can call the people in Support and see what they suggest.

Thanks a lot! I guess I'm going to have to use my Fender PA as that one has a line out. I will call you later on this and find out what I need to work with this. I play calliope on the riverboat and do many lunches and dances.

Hello Linda ,
If it were me , I'd use the Fender PA for mixing all mics and instruments , send the line out to the Bose L1 Channel 1 or 2 for preset usage , or ch 3 or 4 . Use Fender PA monitor send to boat PA system . If you don't have a monitor send , I would split the line out with a Y cord sending to the L1 and boat PA . I know the L1 would sound better than a conventional system . Just my thought , best wishes -J.D.

JD...very cool! I hadn't even thought of that! Well, I'm thinking I should invest in a tiny mixer for doing the boat, right? BTW....if y'all ever get to Louisville, KY do check out the Belle of Louisville. I'm very partial, but it's a great gig for me and a great way for visitors to enjoy the river and town!!

Isn't a calliope a steam powered pipe organ?
Why do you need to amplify a calliope?
How DO you amplify a calliope?
