For the past week, I've been spending some time in my basement practicing for a short gig I did tonight using my L1 as the practice system. The gig had a traditional soundman and biamped setup with your standard monitors. Even after just a week messing with the L1 in much less than optimal conditions, I've been spoiled by the sound! It was challenging to have to deal with traditional monitors once I tasted the clarity of the sound from the L1s. How am I ever going to get used to woofy, muddy monitors again? My system will be used for a street stage at a local festival tomorrow, but I have to play at another stage. At least some other folks will get the chance to hear what this system can do.
i hear you on playing with monitors again. sometimes of course theres no choice.
ive found that the guys i play with are now much more attune to getting a good monitor mix on-stage. i think after playing with L1's for a long time we've developed a sense of how loud stuff should on stage be even in the monitor environment. everyone tries to keep their sound low and let the lead parts be the loudest, even on stage. the personal 'sound bubbles' are now a lot less different than they used to be.
but at the end of it we cant wait to get back to our L1's :-)
The music festival mentioned previously went off without a hitch. One of the street stages made use of my L1. While I only got the hear it in action twice, it seemed to be a hit with both the performers and the audiences. The only problems came in regards to gain staging for some performers and one kid who insisted the system be pushed to distort so he could get "his sound." The stage manger politely declined that request. Of all the street stages operating, the one with the L1 seemsed to draw the biggest crowds.
