I was semi-active in these forums back when I was considering purchasing this "new" p.a. system in May of 2005, but I haven't been back since. I came back to research some questions I have, and WOW! Did this place grow up! Hopefully this is the appropriate spot to post this. At any rate ....

I am struggling in my research because I am not familiar enough with the "slang" (acronyms). Back when I was buying these, I thought we were calling them a "PAS" (don't ask me what that stood for), and the bass units a "B1." Now I understand that we are on our second generation of B1, and that "PAS" isn't really being used anymore.

Apparently there are L1s and T1s and B1s ... and "Classic" "Model 1" and "Model II" units, but are they different versions of T1s or L1s? I don't know.

Until I can get sorted what is what, I'm going to struggle making heads or tails out of what I read here. Can anyone give me a hand?

By the way, I'm glad to see ST is still around -- and I'm astonished by how much he has contributed! Way to go!

At any rate, if someone could provide a quick reference guide to the slang terms and acronyms used here, it would be a tremendous help on helping me help myself.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Great question.

Let's start with this:

--== click the picture to see it in context in the wiki ==--

L1™ is often used to refer to one system including the Cylindrical Radiator®, Power Stand, and one or more B1 Bass Modules. We don't use PAS (and never officially did) out of respect for someone else's trademark.

Classic
This was the original L1™ and has now been replaced by the Model I.

Model I
This sounds, weighs and looks like the Classic. There are significant differences under the covers, and the input/output panel has been simplified.

Model II
The new one. Lighter, has a smaller Power Stand with folding legs, uses an articulated array in the Cylindrical Radiator.

B1 Bass Module
The Bass Module. This works with all of the above.

T1™ or T1 ToneMatch™ Audio Engine
This is the T1 ToneMatch™ audio engine

This works with all Models (Classic/Model I/Model II)

PackLite® Amplifier A1
Tiny amp (3 pounds) that works with two B1s. This is known as the PackLite® Extended Bass Package (PackLite® amp + two B1 Bass Modules)

This works with all Models (Classic/Model I/Model II)

-= Other =-

Cylindrical Radiator®
"the tower" itself that plugs into the Power Stand. Note - these are *not* interchangeable across models (Classic/Model I/Model II)

Power Stand
"Power Stand" is the base unit that the cables and speaker column plugs into.

Terminolgy and Concepts
This is a long article that contains most of the special terms that come up around here from time to time.

ToneMatch™
"ToneMatch™ presets make it easy to get exceptional amplified tone from any voice or instrument when used with Bose® L1™ portable line array systems. When you select a proprietary ToneMatch preset for your microphone or instrument, you are tapping into a powerful new technology available only from Bose" --- more

Did you ever buy a "PA"?

Yes, I bought four ... uh, I'm not sure what to call them yet. [Blush] L1s?

I bought four L1 Classics (the only models available at the time). Two of the L1s had one B1 each, and the other two L1s had two B1s. Did that make sense?

And yes, I love them and they have been GREAT!

Fantastic, ST, thanks.

So, to add to your list, the "Power Stand" is the base unit that the cables and speaker column plugs into?

And the two-part speaker column is called the Cylindrical Radiator (CR)?

And THANKS for mentioning that the CRs aren't interchangeable across models. Does that mean that there is no upgrade path for someone with Classic L1s?

And thanks for the slag / slang thing. I caught that too when I came back to see if the moderator had let my post through yet. It's embarrassing when I do stuff like that!

By the way, I LOVE your mad skills with graphics and text formating. You definitely make things easier to understand.

And I've already been checking out your wiki site as well. Wow, that's nice.

Good to see you here again Tom.

Did the terminology post above help?

Yup!

Any other terms or slang that need 'splaining?

ST

PS - still here. Who would have thought.

Hi Tom,

Looks like the two posts above crossed paths through the ether.

Glad you like the wiki.

I added "Power Stand" to the list above.
Cylindrical Radiator was already there but I added a picture to help.

Yeah, the moderator lag is confusing our discussion.

The terms are definitely a big help, thanks, ST.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what "L1" stands for?

Again, I am just eating up your wiki ... what an amazing resource. I'll be getting up to speed for awhile I'm sure.

L1 is simply 'Line Array 1'.

Cliff or Ken I'm sure could talk more about the genesis of the name L1.

Hi Tom7,

I have updated the Terminology and Concepts page in the wiki to include all of these common terms.
