I called Tech Support June 4 and spoke with Chris about this.I use 2 PAS systems with 2 B1's each system.I was not hearing enough bass, and a couple sound tech's from the FOH system said two of my B1's were not working. The second one of each system was not working. We unplugged and (thankfully I have 2 extra cables), plugged back again, and the 4 worked!I usually have the 4 B1's stacked together, and heard a difference the last week or so..I checked one cable and it had one of the 4 conductors shorting out(a continuity tester made for many different cables).I'm doing checks on all 6 of my cables to see if there is another in the bunch.Do the Neutrix ends screw off, or pull off to see if the fault is in the end or just the cable?I haven't taken a Neutrix end apart for years...
Thanks for the often overlooked tip on troubleshooting this problem.Otherwise,I love the BOSE systems--BOTH!!!!!!

Hi Doug. Good work finding the problem. The Speakon connectors come off fairly easy. The shell unscrews to expose wires and their screw-lock receptacles. Simply strip the insulation off the loose wire and place it back in it's receptacle. Tighten the locking screw to capture the wire and reassemble the connector. Good luck.

I checked all 6 of my B1 cables(4 BOSE blue, and 2 aftermarket 4-conductor cables)with a very good cable tester.I found 2 VERY BAD cables! They were the BOSE blue ones, and mysteriously, they seemed to look "cut" completely through the 4 separate inner cables, but yet the outer blue cable covering was not at all cut or ripped in any way!Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!How could that happen? Are the 4 inner conductors so brittle that they would break of and yet remain inside the outer layer, looking "innocent"??I fixed both cables, and will test all my cables nightly before performances.A strange thing to look for, but WOW, does it make a difference in the sound....I do not understand HOW this could happen, but maybe someone has an idea. Are the cables made of a fragile substance???And to Chris,,Thanks for pointing me DIRECTLY to the problem!I guess I take it for granted that all my cables are always in perfect shape..
Thanks again. This might help someone else who thinks he has "not enough bass response"...

Hi Doug,

<a very good cable tester

I have 9 PS1s, 8 Towers and 14 B1s that
I'm using for my 14 piece horn band. What
cable tester did you use to test the Neutrix
cables?

I have shortened two of my four B1 cables for appearance purposes and found them to be very flexible and of high quality. Can't imagine internal wires being "cut" or "cracked" without showing on the outside. But odd things do happen.

I have a SoundTech Professional Audio CableCheck Multi-Cable Test System.About 125 dollars.I got it through a music store (Madhouse Music) in Green Bay,WI.Uses one 9-volt battery that lasts forever...I can test ANY cable.INVALUABLE!
Just thinking....Would it be possible to have an LED in these B1's to signal that they are working or not? Sometimes the light and viewing levels make it difficult to see the 6" speakers moving...

Update to Chris and Kyle
I received the 2nd replacement B1 cable this past Saturday, and sent the "mystery cables" out 2 day mail on Tuesday. We played an outdoor concert yesterday for about 300 people in the middle of a downtown park. My two sytems were behind and to each side of me ( about 4 ft. back and 3 feet to each side, with the 4 B1's stacked). It sounded GREAT! The bass wass there, the clarity was there, what I wanted was there. I had kick drum thru one side, vocal thru the other side, and keyboards and bass thru both. We had MAIN PA to my far left(about 20-25ft) for guitar, vocals, and drums enhancement. Many compliments on the sound! Not blaring loud and not too soft.Aside from the 90 degree heat and high humidity, we had a breeze to make it fairly comfortable.I love it when I can hear what I sound like, and not have to guess...Also, please let me know what you find on the cables I sent in.Thanks.
A happy customer!

Kurz,
Got the cables. Thanks for sending them. I've passed them on to Engineering to look at. I took a brief look and have never seen anything like that. Thanks for sending them to us so that we can make sure a problem like this is not repeated.
