Our drummer uses a condenser mic for vocals, it's an AKG headset mic actually. It sounds great through the PAS, the only problem being that he occasionally gets a feedback ring when he takes the headset OFF and lays it down on one of his drums. He's normally very close to his system though, and he has the same problem with conventional monitors. So he just has to be careful to turn the mic off when he takes a break.
Part of the problem with most condenser mics is that they are not as directional as dynamics. So they're more likely to feed back, both with a conventional PA and the Bose system. There are some condensers that are specifically designed for live stage work, which have a tight cardioid pattern, and those would probably work OK. Large condensers such as one would use in the studio, are not recommended for live performances. I haven't tried any with the PAS but it's just something I'd be wary of in general! They are likely to feed back and also are very sensitive so they're more likely to pick up unwanted sound sources (like bleed from the other systems). What The...? http://www.what-the.com |
