Recently we got (again) enthusiastic comments on our L1-sound after our shows. Among the audience there were very experienced and well-known professional musicians who said they never ever heard such a great live sound anywhere (there aren't many musicians around here using the L1 - in fact, I never saw one ... so we fly the Bose flag over here

VERY well deserved reaction Ralph, and it's so great to hear your experiences. There may be half of a world, native language and ocean physically between us, but our musical DNA is very close - I just wish I could hear you in person, to go along with your fine recordings that I treasure.
We had a similar experience this weekend. Our "Rockupational Therapy" band seems to specialize in marathons and other running events - what a market niche! Saturday was an annual event called the Dallas Trinity Levee Run - thousands of runners - running clubs, a Police recruit team versus a Fire Department team, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert spoke, news coverage - not as big a deal as the White Rock Marathon with 40,000, but still a pretty big event. The area is a park near downtown with a high-profile huge development and beautification project underway. We have played it many years in a row - they always have a nice stage and hire a sound company with a big PA. We Bose-it on stage and line-out to the PA, which we never thought to be really necessary. THIS year... they asked if WE would "provide the sound" and they quadrupled our fee (still not that great and probably less than what they paid the sound company! THANKS and kudos to our advocate sponsor Roger Foster). Of course we said yes. We brought actually ONE more Bose than usual, for the announcer, and it was perfect! L-to-R we ran, all classics: Bose #1 with two subs for the announcer (named Terry Bradshaw, but NOT the bald QB...) - wireless SM-58, lined out to MY system on the far right... Bose #2 one sub for Dan Clower lead guitar (Line 6 footboard, 68 Les Paul) and vocal Bose #3 Packlite four subs for Dr. Bob Rosen bass and vocal - Fender Jazz active 5-string Bose #4 two subs for right side of Jim Rosenthal's Roland e-drums ** these two subs sat on top of Bob's four - quite a stack! ALSO - Jim's kick and Bob's bass ran through an 18" JBL powered sub back and below the stage, and it made a very clear and positive boost to the low end. Bose #5 two subs for Jim's drums left side and vocal - YES, e-drums through two systems is incredible! Bose #6 two subs for Mike O'Neal's Tele and vocal - Fender Super Champ XD miced, and channel 3 was the announcer lined in from Bose #1 Also used my Fishman SoloAmp as a sidefill next to me with Dan's guitar and vocal lined in from the far other side. Helps. Nothing but positive reviews on the sound - the announcer was very clear, prominent, and natural, and our high-energy classic Beatles, Beach Boys, Doobies, Eagles, Who, Wonders, et al was pretty well received too. It was pretty amusing to walk out in front - with the Boses all at the back of the stage, background almost transparent, shaded by the stage tent-top - it was like, WHERE is all that sound COMING FROM?! VIVA La Bose! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mike in Texas, |

Not weird at all. Our trio specializes is music that is not mainstream bar-band material, so we happily play the smaller crowds. We played a public library with 2-L1s for a senior coffee hour and totally mesmerized a small group of 15 or so mostly widowed elderly ladies. We sing a lot of old country songs and I saw & felt a lot of emotion pass between us and them. The L1s are always plenty, and we too love the *intimacy* that only the L1 can really provide, as the music seems to come directly from the player/singer...not a big honky cabinet off-to-the-side. |

I'm often hired by people having house parties and the smaller audiences can hear more clearly and are usually more attentive. I think the best gig I ever gave was for a Salvation Army benefit I did for people in addiction rehabilitation. I played with the L1 in a beautiful chapel and to have the people sitting in rows in front of me was special. It was a performance and it was an honor to have that audience give me their undivided attention. In that event, the L1 sounded so clear and present it was as if my guitar and voice had just emerged larger than life but still kept the 'living room' quality that comes from playing for friends in a comfortable environment.

Hey Ralph - thanks man. All those L1's WERE pretty cool - they almost looked like they were just POSTS for the roof! But boy, they sounded amazing, as we all know so well. And yeah - the B1 stack is pretty ridiculous!
Sorry to hijack your thread - but all my friends are waiting in line to listen to your CDs, after I told them about you and Walter! You keep rocking! MIKE --- oh - visit my site for more gig pics... Mike O'Neal Music - RTX |

Hi Mike,
That makes me laugh and think of a gig we played recently. Walters father (around 75 years now) appeard and asked: "What are these stovepipes doing on the stage?" What a laugh! Just visited your new site, so many great pics. Will you place music on to it too? As I saw you are a regular muscian at Neuhaus Café (sounds extremely Austrian BTW: Next weekend we'll do the final mix for our 3rd CD; 10 new songs (8 originals and 2 covers of very, very old songs ...). This is the best one we ever did, really! I did not find your adress anymore to send one ... if you like ... |

Hi Mike,
Shirt-sleeves - sheesh. Neat picture! Looks like you really got to kickin' up the skirts. I'm supposed to have an outdoor event this weekend. I don't know who that that would be a good idea in my neck o' the woods. We're having record lows for this time of year with flash white-outs here and there. Long-range forecast for this weekend *IS* for snow. Waiting to hear from the organizers. |

Hey ST,
Yes Sir - early March and WARM in Texas. I had brought a long sleeve shirt to wear playing the gig, but I would have overheated... But TODAY, 3 days later it's rainy and cold - cool? - high 40's (I KNOW - "cold" is relative)... That's a great stage to play on, only with the strong wind can you even see that it's actually a trailer - brilliant design. Ralph - "stovepipe" - that's SO FUNNY to me - the very first time we used the Bose, in December 2003, my friend Chuck walked into the gig, seeing the L1 for the first time and said "Wow - stovepipes", and I jumped all over him "treat these things with proper respect - they're great". True story! And yes, I DO plan to put some tunes and videos out, but I'm doing my own web "programming", and I haven't figured out how to link a player into my site template just yet. I'm workin' on it! Thanks for the comments... The nice gentleman who owns and runs the Neuhaus Cafe is from South Africa - the name is tied to the chocolate line, so may well be Austrian. Later friends... MIKE |

Mike,
Nice pic! You could probably get Bose to use it as a promo shot, if you PhotoShop the two upper B1's out of the pic! (The manual says that's a no-no, though it doesn't say if it's a safety or sound issue; I imagine safety.) Anyway, very nice setup!
