How are the speakers configured? Is it a series/parallel combination? If one speaker goes out does it take 6 (8,12)with it? I am used to being able to troubleshoot on the gig, what happens if there is a problem with your equipment? Are there any user repairable parts to this setup? If an amp goes out, is there a way to bypass and insert a backup amp without carrying a backup PAS?

Thanks for the question ModmanQ6. Bose adheres to the highest quality standards for all of our products. To accomplish this, we put every one of our products through a number of harsh tests- temperature, humidity, vibration, electro-magnetic interference, drop, abrasion, liquid spills, overvoltage, lightning,.. the list goes on- this all to manufacture reliable and durable products. This is especially important for the musician who will be rough with this product. We have carefully designed this product for maximum reliability under these conditions. To answer your questions:

There are three high power amplifiers inside the PS1 Power Stand, each with their own power supply. One power amp is directed to the upper L1 Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker, the second to the lower L1 and the third is routed to the optional one or two bass modules you can hook up. Seperate amplifiers drive seperate parts of the system. Also, the drivers in EACH half of the L1 are wired series/parallel. We do not predict there ever to be a case of loudspeakers 'blowing out'- this is an intelligent, integrated system where all signals are protected from degrading the loudspeakers. This is very different from the loudspeaker/amplifier/mixing board approach where all the components typically are designed and specified to work with a wide variety of components- protection of the loudspeakers is not possible with these systems.

As long as you are in good standing with your fellow players, you could easily ask to patch into a system adjacent to yours.

Yes, we have considered this and yes there will be user replaceable parts such as drivers and grills.

If I understand you question properly I think you are asking if the mixer portion of the PS1 is available to be used with 3rd party amps/cabs? We have designed the system with very little complexity involved, for this we did not design the panel with patches for the mixer section. As states above, an unexpected massive failure could mean that you become fast friends with your bandmates. Smile

Ok, without giving away too many of your technical secrets, if one 2" driver goes out, what percentage of the sound goes out? Only 1/24th or some higher percentage? In another thread I asked about running half of the tower unit and EQ problems were brought up by your engineers. How would this affect the sound (less volume, heavier bass, etc...)? Did you test this scenario in your "extensive testing" trials? And lastly, in what ballpark range would the replacement drivers and grills be priced?

ModmanQ6,
If a driver went out in the L1 Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker, only 1/6th of the drivers would be muted. Although we have not measured the effects of such a failure, there would probably be a minimal change in volume- only 4 of the 24 drivers would be out (in the case of an open voice coil). In other words, you would still be able to play your gig.

Currently, we are determining a price for replacement parts. Do however keep in mind that there is a 5-year warranty on acoustic components.
