My bassist just called from home and related a story from last night. He had taken one of my PASs home with him to help set up a new POD XT Live, and had it in his living room hooked up to his computer. He played about 2 minutes of an MP3 from his computer when he got a knock at the front door. It was a neighbor lady from across the street.

She said "you are going to have to turn down your music, it sounds like it's playing right outside my living room window and I can't hear the TV!" She also commented on how "clean and clear" the sound was...that is seemed to be right in the room with her. You may think I'm making this up, but I'm not.

The PAS L1 was not even aimed in her direction, it was aimed away from the neighbor toward the opposite wall inside John's house. John was dumb-struck at her bringing up the clear sound comment, he didn't mentioned what system the music was playing thru as if she would have even understood. He said she mentioned the clean sound three times! Maybe she just wanted to be invited over for the party.

A few months back when I first joined up with his band, we practiced in his garage with their Peavey mains as monitors. Never got a complaint...and believe me, it was loud, albeit "Peavey Loud". Since then we have been practicing at my house with the good stuff.

Now, whenever I ask where they want Wednesday night practice to be, they always say "your place" (where the Bose are). It's a 45 minute drive each way. Of course, I offer free tea and cookies.

Aaah, the wonder of it all

Sometimes that long-throw and amazing presence has odd consequences.

The (not-Bose) audio component of my home theatre system blew up recently. I pulled out an older preamp and setup a couple of my Bose Systems (left/right in 'phantom' mode), just to see what would happen.

I had to turn up the highs and mids a little and roll back on the low end.

It sounds very good. It sounds very good,
- - - - - - - > everywhere.

If it is loud enough to enjoy in the theatre room (not loud loud, just loud enough), it is audible everywhere. Basically can't get away from it.

It's a good thing that I don't have neighbours within ear-shot or I would be-shot.

Drumr, sounds like deja vu. I got the PAS a couple months back and we immediately had an early evening practice (around 6pm) at our drummers place. I plugged in my acoustic, my vocal mic and the bassist plugged in direct too. Nice pleasant volume. Not a half hour goes by and a neighbot knocks on the door. She says she's putting her baby to sleep and it sounds like we are right there in the baby's bedroom. She said it sounded nice, but that the baby couldn't sleep. And get this, she lived ACROSS THE PARKING LOT!!! and this was the first ever complaint.

Yes, isn't it odd?

Maybe this could lead the Bose people to find other uses for this effect. You know, like how a speaker can also act as a microphone. Use it in reverse for surveillance.

Maybe the government would buy into it for something evil, you could make millions!
