There is a major discussion going on at the PSW forum regarding the Bose L1 among other things. http://srforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/t/6658/0/

I came across it via the Fractal Audio forum, where I was learning about a very promising modeling amp called "Axe-FX". This device may finally be the answer to us guitarists ditching our tube amps. However, I was disappointed that the creator of it responded about Bose. Quote: "I learned a long time ago that if you don't have anything good to say... CC". You'd think he'd say nice things because many of his potential customers own the L1. Also, one of the main pros of the L1 is exactly the same pro of the Axe-FX. Portability.

My main questions with this thread would be:

* Does anyone have experience with the Axe-FX vs. the Boss GT-10 vs. other amp solutions and the Bose?
* What was the PSW quote referring to when they said that the Bose line array degrades over time?

Finally, I think some of you that are good writers should go over to that PSW post and the Fractal Audio forum and correct some of the bad press I see there about the Bose. Show me another PA system that I can use, other than the Bose L1 M2, that is very portable and sounds even remotely close to this good and then I'll accept the negative press about what I purchased and about what is making me money.

Hi djazz,

The lead post in the discussion you quoted was from Sebas (Sebastiaan Meijer).

He posted a follow up in this discussion on our message board.

PAS system used as sidefills.

quote:
Quoting Sebas - just an excerpt

In our experience the BOSE PAS system was a great tool for this job. The throw of the system is great, as is the definition. While on the previous tour we had some issues with road-proofness of the system this has not
been of the slightest problem on this tour. In acoustically challenging environments like concert halls we were able to keep the performers 'connected' to each other. Which had been difficult in earlier visits of the same venues using wedges only.

Please see the whole discussion.

I hope that helps.

Sorry - no experience with the Axe-FX or Boss GT-10.

Its not that they are all badmouthing the BOSE system.. But it comes down to using the "Right tool for the Job".

Perhaps a NEXO PS10 or PS8 system would be a better choice for outdoor events and large crowds. The BOSE PAS is quite well suited for indoors and rooms where db needs to be low while audio quality remains high.

Front loaded, Horn loaded, and arrayed systems all have their place in the gig and the market.

Those guys tend to deal with 500-50,000 people in the audience and will rarely have an event that calls for the BOSE PAS. (so there are some that just see the product name and write it off as useless or non-pro gear)

What they need to understand is in those situations the Bose is the perfect on stage monitor system That is why Steve Miller and other artist are starting to use the L1. You have no control on out front sound in those outdoors gigs so at least have the best onstage sound you could possibly get without the extreme volume onstage.
