Guys, guys, guys: That's all we get ova here.

Where are the women? Like, I'm sure we're all in touch with our feminine sides, so to speak, but come on, girls; join in. I know you're out there making music with our L1.

Ah, how I yearn for the early days where my guitar hero, Lee Flier, would write in and tell us all where it's at.

I will tell Mrs. BBE about this thread, and when she sees a notification e-mail, she can jump right in. Much of what I have written has concerned her...she just as well speak for herself, right? Actually, she has posted here of her own accord, come to think of it, and did a superbly accurate job of it.

Amen, Cliff. I'm still digging her 'Rock Files' column in EQ every month. Lee, we miss you! You just gotta at least be peeking in on us every now and again, aren't you?

I miss Mary (mbanshee), too. And Sherrie (Sherrie's Keys). I'll echo Cliff's request - COME ON, GIRLS: JOIN IN! We're feeling a little lopsided Frown...

I was thinking about this very topic in the shower this morning.

Now, we (The Gyze) know that women are a lot smarter than us, about certain things anyway. Right? I'll admit it, for one. Frankly, we havn't been too brilliant about how to solve our race's biggest problems, and have been in control since day one. I'm ready for some female leadership here (not HC). We can always play football and drag race cars. Let mothers run the army, probably solve world hunger and all the rest in 10 years without wars.

That's beside the point. You know how we always jump to "solution space" when working out "relationship" and "feelings" problems, and simply infuriate women who want to talk about it endlessly, and make a decision later? My guess is that women who own an L1 have simply accepted that it works and that's the end of the story. The guys, meanwhile, just want to debate all the issues endlessly, even if they own an L1. Sort of, guys approach equipment and gear the same way women approach feelings and relationships. You know? Whaddya think? Girls?

Actually, there probably aren't a whole lot of female musicians, compared to the Legion of Men in music.

Ah, the existential pain of it all.

Speaking for myself and what I have seen on "myspace" musicians network I have 'found' hundreds of female solo musicians. There is a shift in music where females are catching up to males. I was overwhelmed at how great all this music is.
If your interested to see some of these great female musicians go to my myspace Dancing Dog Muse page. Page down to under the thumbnail musician pics on the right side of my page. There you will see in small print "view all of dancingdogmuse friends".Click on this and it will open to a new window with like 62 pages of musicians. There are a few thousand of them. Most are female musicians. click on the thumbnail and it will open up the musicians myspace. Then see, hear & learn about their music. All of them wonderful, all of them trying to make music in a world that is dominated by 'male' musicians. The times they are a changing. I like change. Smile

Mr Dog

So then, there's still hope. You bring an encouraging message here.

Maybe they don't like to talk and debate endlessly about gear like we do. They just go use it. You think?

I'd love to know the male/female demographics of L1 ownership. Maybe I'll dig into this a bit...

Meanwhile, Ladies are always welcome here. Who's out there?

If my beloved is any indication of the norm, then this statement, Cliff, is right on the money!

No offense to my own gender, but I think women just generally work a lot harder than us. My wife just doesn't stop. All day - from the time she gets up until her head hits the pillow at night. They really don't have time to hang around and chat about such trivial things... there's just too much to do. Women are a far more complex species than us males, who - as Cliff pointed out - would be happy to watch football or go jam.

For you, Cliff - here's an engineers view of the difference between men and women.

Gittar-jonz,

That is totally it. I have never seen a better representation of Men vs Women in my life.

That hits it on the head completely, in just about all areas of life, men are either on or off. When they are on, watch out, things get done, wars get fought, projects are finished, it is all or nothing.

Women are much more complex, and this is a very funny representation.

Thanks for sharing.

I've seen a lot of women on other forums I frequent, so I don't think women shy away from forums as a rule.

I've only known a couple other women that use L1's though. Some women have told me that the L1 is still too big & heavy for them to lug around. Let's see if the Model II changes that. I know my wife doesn't like to help put the L1 up. She's says it's a little too unwieldy for her to manage without fear of dropping the tower sections.

Jonz, I'm dyinovahere. ("Bonnie, look at THIS")

But, this still feels like the boy's locker room to me. I'm going to send this link to Lee Flier. She'll rally the Girls' Cavalry for sure.

Awww well hi guys. Nice to know you still care. Big Grin

I don't have a problem with lugging L1's around or setting them up. And we still love them. Hopefully we'll be getting the new ones soon and will have more to talk about on here! Meanwhile the band has been very busy... if you've read my latest EQ column yet (May issue) you'll see we've been getting into playing gigs in virtual reality. We're gonna have to get some virtual L1's in there! Big Grin

We are also about to start playing for more teenagers, at music camps and schools. Really looking forward to that because the kids love us and music is more important to them than anybody. Beats playing in smoky bars for jaded adults. Big Grin

Anyhow... I'll try and check in here more often, great to see all the familiar faces. Smile

Yeah I can sort of see that. I personally am very "right brained" about music gear even though I'm an engineer and technically minded. I don't go into "problem solving mode" unless there's a problem. If something works for me - that is if it sounds good and feels good, I just use it and like you say, feel there's nothing more to talk about. Nor do I tend to go looking about for better gear just for the sake of it. Big Grin I've had my '52 Les Paul for over 20 years and I really don't lust after other guitars; I have other guitars but I don't go looking at magazines thinking I really need to buy another one, or endlessly debating the merits of different types of pickups. I pick up my LP and it sounds and feels great, and I just want to enjoy the feeling I get when I play it. End of story. I say this even though as you know, I can geek out with the best of them when I want to.

I have no idea if this is a female thing or just an individual thing. I don't really think about that too much, I just try to take people as they come.

There are quite a lot but most are not necessarily in gigging bands. They're in orchestral positions, or they're composers, or solo entertainers in restaurants, session players who do jingles, that sort of thing. Something with a bit more of a steady paycheck and regular hours. Why? Because most women want to have families and the idea of going off in a smelly van and being in smoky bars most weekends isn't compatible with having children.

I made the decision a long time ago that I don't want to have kids because if I did, I'd want to stay home with them. And I'm too into music to do that. But I think women are more conscious about that choice than men are... I think most men assume they can be parents and have a job that keeps them away from home a lot, because it's always been that way for them.

I think that's really an individual thing more than it is a gender thing. Some people are more laid back, and some are more driven. Some are sociable and chatty, others are more introverted... etc. We all have a tendency to look at our own loved ones and ascribe their traits to everyone of their gender, but I don't think that holds up to objective scrutiny too well. Big Grin

A lot of women are happy with simple things too. And men are more complex than they've historically been allowed to let on. You can't really stop and think about things much when you're expected to go out and kill people to defend your family, and maybe be killed or watch your buddies be killed, and be away from home a lot hunting or fighting or working some horrible job. And that is what men have had to do for thousands of years. The only reason for that is they're physically stronger. They've never had any special emotional qualifications for being able to handle this kind of stress, and so they've had to deal with it by just shutting down. And this has been passed on through the generations: you don't show your feelings or think about them. And it comes out in men's higher rate of depression, anxiety, suicide, heart attacks and earlier death. Frown Only recently have most men even been allowed to think about these things.

I hope that as "civilization" progresses and we all get a chance to think and talk about these things, we'll all become more like the multifaceted human beings that we really are and less like these rigid male-vs.-female gender stereotypes. And be able to relate to each other and take care of each other much better than we ever could in the past. Smile

Boy Cliff, you got more than you bargained for inviting me into this thread, didn't you? Big Grin

That pic is awesome, jonzy! Just emailed it it to the Mrs. - I'm sure she'll get a hoot out of it...

Great to hear from you, Lee! Very insightful stuff, as usual. I think that your 'historically been allowed' and 'individual more than gender' points are right on the money...

Lee rocks (thanks for your thoughts, Lee).

And, seeing as I'm outnumbered 2 to 1 by women at home, it feels; well; homier, with Lee hanging with us again (at long last).

But, no I didn't get what I was hoping for. Where are the rest of ladies?

(Making music and wondering why the guys are just talking about it?).
