I'll sign up for inviting Bill Szymczyk, the local record producer. I think he'll really dig our community.

Also, I'll take care of letting some of the Big Sur folks know, although it will obviously be hard to get them all the way to the "right coast".

Tom, would you be willing to hip some of the Colorado/Cuchara folks?

Ken,

I'd like to invite a friend/local artist Marie Miller. I've thrown her name out in the past. She is fantastic as is her band. She sings sort of gospel pop with a country flavor. www.mariemiller.net

I have no doubt most, if not all, would thoroughly enjoy a set, should she be one of the featured professional acts. No pressure. Just throwing it out there. I've spoken to her dad about the possibility and he's at least open. For what it's worth.

John

I just visited her site and gave a listen. Wow!!
Very impressive. If she's coming, I'll buy her CD in person.

Where to begin? If on faith and trust alone, and to borrow a Nike campaign...just do it.

For those folks who haven't been, but might need a little stimulation, the excitement that you read in Ken's posts, and see in Tom's face in his avatar (well, Ken's, too) - that is 100% genuine thrill. Let me reflect a moment...

I considered going to Big Sur, but really couldn't swing it at the time for one reason or another. I forget now. Drumr returned from it, and filled me in. Let's just say I itched for the next one, if there ever would be a next one. Then came Bose's announcement of the East Coast event. Oh....man....I almost had this one booked; even put my name on the list. Then I realized it was just too close to other previously made travel plans (that ultimately were cancelled) to be able to make it work. Drumr returned from it, and filled me in (hey, where have I read that before?)

Oh my gosh this is killing me!

What's that? Did someone say Midwest gathering?

Well I hopped on that, yes sir. If someone had a thought that a Midwest gathering might be nice, then I was going to do what I could to make it happen. There were four of us (JohnNell, Bob in St. Louis, Drumr and me) that initially collaborated on this and it came to fruition in St. Louis last summer. This could not have been (for me, anyway) any better. Carrie and I got there Friday night and had the sublime pleasure of visiting with Chris, Ken and Neil. That night I couldn't sleep. I was so keyed up. So excited! Then after the full day Saturday, I still couldn't sleep that night when I should have been completely wiped.

(more can be read in the Midwest Enthusiast's forum)

In Carrie's words, "well, you're/we're not missing another one." It was every bit as grand for her as me, which I thought was pretty cool.

Along came Cuchara. How could I go, though? It seemed awfully soon after St. Louis, but found out rather quickly that didn't matter. I had a gig here at home on Sunday at noon and was able to catch a flight right after. I found myself in Colorado that night at 9:30. It was after everything had started, but so what. You know, oh potential conference attendee, the only thing better about the folks on this forum is when you get to meet them in person. Did that read right? I mean to tell you when I walked in at Cuchara, and sat down quietly, it was like walking into a room full of brothers and sisters. I knew Ken, Chris and Neil from St. Louis, but I got much the same vibe from others - Tom Munch with a big warm smile and a little wave from across the room; a hearty greeting from Chuck at the break. Treeeeemendous.

I have written it before here. I said it in St. Louis, and I know others must feel it. There is so much more to the L1 than what it does for live sound reinforcement. In our case, it's really bigger than that. I hope you don't think it's hokey, but it's sure okay if you do. The relationships that have come out of using this invention, and that have been continually reinforced by talking about this thing day in and day out...well, it's a really wonderful thing.

The conferences have facilitated this brother and sisterhood to a level I would bet that Cliff and Ken had no inkling of when the L1 quest began. We've all written or read how each one had its own, distinctive vibe. I got to experience Big Sur and Ashland vicariously, and St. Louis and Cuchara in person. Now with Little Switzerland on the horizon hosting the biggest little sound on the planet, I feel like my heart is being ripped out. Oh, yes, I'm being a little dramatic, but as much as you read the excitement brewing, all the deeper my emotion becomes the other way. I mean I can literally feel it in my gut. If it causes as much excitement as you are reading for those that are going and as much disappointment in those that cannot (well, me), shouldn't you seriously consider it if you have any desire at all?

Still over a month out, but I bid you all the very best of a time there. I hold to a mere glimmer of possibility that it will work for me, but probably it will have to be the next time around.

Best,
N

Well, I feel a bit foolish now Red Face, but after crunching the numbers, there's just no way I can make this happen. I will not be in attendance at this conference...the management regrets any inconvenience Roll Eyes

Back when we first started talking about this, I was assuming I'd be gigging more by now and have some extra income, and I guess I assumed it might be closer to me. I found the prices at Little Switzerland to be very fair for a tourist area, I just can't swing it.

I look forward to the videos! Smile

Tres,

I'm crushed! This is your conference as I see it. We just have to figure a way to get you there.

Hey Tres - I got an A-Frame with an extra bed. It's paid for. If you and/or the wife can put up with the dog then it's yours.

What color is the dog? Big Grin

You guys are too kind. I'm ok with this, life happens...

Let me talk things over with my wife and see what develops. Not having to make reservations Monday morning gives us a litte more breathing room, at least.

I've been asked to join a local WORKING band, and that could develop into some income (more on that some other time).

Let's see what happens...

I'm honored you think so...and humbled.

We're sharpening our pencils down here, and trying new math Big Grin. I haven't given up yet...

Several options are on the horizon!

Tres,

MY A-frame is available too.

I got it for just this kind of thing.

Hey Nathan. So sorry to hear that you might not be able to make it. Keep working at that small possibility, the conference will better if you are there.

Tres. Keep trying, would love to meet you.

Just heard back from Rebecca Gale - VinsGirl. She'd love to come, but won't know till we get closer to the conference. Maybe she'll chime in here sometime.

Also talked to David & Annie Enke. They were in Big Sur & Cuchara (their back yard). They won't be able to make it.

Andy,

Thanks. Really.

Like Rebecca (per Tom) I won't be 100% sure for another few weeks. Right now I guess I am Ivory Soap sure of me not coming.

But we'll see.

Thanks Ken and Tom, it means a lot.

I'm going to try and carpool with JoelHeck (I'll be emailing you, Joel! LOL) and probably sharing an A Frame with Roy.

Still need to find out if my wife is coming (I'll know tomorrow). I'm trusting the funds will come in between now and then. With three of us in the car (potentially) I had to back off on equipment some, but it looks like we have enough anyway.

Cross your fingers! Eek
