Hey Ken and others,

Confirmed my reservation today. There was apparently no interest in "Edelweiss" even with it's reduced rate of $50.

Since I was the only one I changed my reservation to the lodge.

If this changes and others want to stay in Edelweiss please advise. I like the late night jam idea.

Good news O.

I think Cliff might be interested in the Edelweiss.

Let's keep our ears open for this week to see if it's worth booking it.

For the record, I plan to come in Saturday afternoon.

Maybe we can have some unplugged playing on Saturday night, among other things?

I think this falls under logistics...maybe agenda.

Travel and room expenses I can readily find, but what of the board? What will be available and at what cost at the Inn? I assume we'll have at least one meal together as a conference group.

(EDIT)

Well, I asked before looking deeper...again! I am somewhat dense, of late I guess. Anyway, if anyone else wonders, I found the menu pricing. Here is Lunch for instance.

I guess we can plan on these prices then (or less)?

(end edit)

Are there any more details to know in this regard?

Thanks!

N

Nathan -

I ALWAYS check the menu, usually before anything else! Wink You should have said something, I could have pointed you there! HA!

Me too!

I was just on the phone with Jack at the Switzerland Inn.

As long as we are not TOO loud, we can probably play late into the night in the Mountain View Restaurant (Buildings 12 + 13). That is subject to confirming with Gary - the manager - who is out of town for a couple of days.

I want to share with you all what I think is far and away the best flight finder I've found anywhere.

You can find it here.

Why is it so great?

1. You can specify what airlines you want to look at, including multiples
2. The window of time for departures
3. The total duration you're willing to tolerate
4. How many stops
5. And many more...

Perhaps most important, the interface allows you to "play" with these parameters after you've done a search. This is the coolest part of the site.

So what I do is cast a wide net (essentially no restrictions) and then I start to winnow things down. Usually I'm able to optimize arrangements quickly. Then, they take you right to the site that is selling the ticket (e.g the airline web site, or Expedia, or whatever.)

Check it out.

Will do, Nathan. I may fly into Raleigh Friday night to see Larry Myers if he ends up coming.

Thanks, Tom!

Obviously any ride-hitching potential for me is a step in the right direction.

Ken, et al,

I did not try that link you gave, but Carrie found Kayak.com several months ago. Based on your description, I'd say the two services behave similarly.

(edit)

Well, what do you know? I clicked Ken's link and found it to be an identical interface, "powered by Kayak".

Good tip, though, Ken. Saves time, for sure.

Hi Everyone,

Leave it to me to post on the dead planning thread. Anyway, I'm currently planning on coming. Its about 3 hours from my home in Durham, NC to the Switzerland Inn. I'm pretty familiar with the area between Little Switzerland and Boone and its beautiful there. As I posted in the other thread:

quote:

There's some amazing hiking trails in the area, including a trail off the top of Grandfather Mountain that may be the best on the East Coast, certainly the best I've ever hiked in both degree of difficulty and spectacular scenery. In the same area there is fishing, whitewater canoing, Linville Falls, caverns, gem mining, horseback riding, picturesque shopping in Blowing Rock and more.

I can bring whatever, so I'll keep an eye on the wiki list to see what's needed.

Ken and Bose team: If there's anything you need me to do, please let me know.

Can't wait!!

Larry

I have a gig Tuesday night, so I'm trying to figure if other folks are leaving as soon as you're up on Tuesday, or whether you want to do try & do any "official" things yet on Tuesday morning. I'll try to get a substitute for my Tuesday night gig if I need to.

Ken -
My big baby is in the shop for some neck-repair work at the moment. So, I'm planning on bringing my little baby, my NS-Design Wav4 EUB!

Nathan -
Of course I'd play stand up for you (if I could)! Does this mean you're going to make it?
