Cliff, me and my dad were also tempted. And we gave in! Hope to share some pics.

So Cliff, what SUV did you rent? I'm telling you, I sure can't imagine driving fast on that road. Dont' get me wrong, I'm a driving enthusiast and I love winding twisty roads and I saw plenty of them in the Rockies. And I know about the Pike's Peak race. But those guys (and gals?) must be insane to push the limits on that road. Then again, maybe your genius side is offset with insanity! Smile

Ah, another automotive enthusiast. I'll try to answer your question:

The professional racing SUV I rented from AVIS was the invisible kind. It didn't have a color. I forgot (never knew, probably) what brand it was but I sure lost it in the parking lot. There were 50 others exactly like it (all painted with the invisible paint, probably clearcoated too) and I must have broken into 40 of them until I recognized something familiar (my Thunderbird hat). It either had the 2-cylinder motor option, or the lawnmower engine. Either way, it made more noise when you floored it, so at least there was that entertaining quality to it. It may not have made it up the initial incline shown, so I'm sure I did a wise thing by turning around.

Next time I'll rent the Shelby.

Good one, Cliff! Smile I saw the new Audi SUV in front of me as we approached the entrance to Pike's Peak Road. I was wondering if that was you. But sounds like you got the same rental as me - a gutless wonder with reasonable comfortable seats and a Garmin navi we dubbed "Mary". But Mary let us down a couple times, unfortunately.

No Tom. What would be me would be what's in the photo only about 20 feet towards the passenger side, headed downwards.
