Next Best Thing is a 3 piece band.
Playing Classic Hits 60s onwards

Performing in Clubs for audiences of 100
Show type: Listening and dancing

Using the L1® System since November 2007

Geographic location: Sydney, Australia

Notes about Next Best Thing
Young female vocalist who plays synth, bassist and guitarist who also sing, we love harmony. Drums and other instruments are sequenced and played from a laptop or Alesis SR16 in stereo.

Bose L1® equipment
1 Classic with 2xB1
1 Model II with 1xB1 and T1
Baby Marshall guitar amp, no bass guitar amp.

Comments about the L1® System
We love it. The best foldback ever. Audience, including musician friends comment on how clear we sound.
We use a small Behringer desk for the vocals and backing tracks due to the large number of channels: 3 vox, stereo synth, stereo laptop, stereo Alesis drum machine, separate mp3 player for breaks, occasional guest microphone. Guitar and bass are direct in to respective L1 systems.

Web Site: Next Best Thing trio

The Players
Melanie: Synth and vocals.
Graeme: Guitar and vocals.
Rob: p-Bass and vocals.

(Edit: Graeme on guitar went back to using his small Marshall afte using no amp for a few months - he's happier with its sound, and he doesn't have to change rigs between the Bose and non-Bose bands that he's in)

Hello Mr. Dad !
I just wanted to say that I thought your vids on your site are superb! Great audio quality imho and performances! And I take it that they are all done "at home" too!
You Aussies always seem to put out quality stuff. I'm a big Little River Band fan, and always will be.

Congrats!
John (in Michigan)

Thanks Voxta.

Yes, the first two vids were done in my living room which was also our rehearsal space. To match the video, the Be Home Soon (Crowded House) vid uses a different audio mix than my audio only demo track. You can hear Graeme's plectrum striking his strat strings in some parts of the track.

LRB, great band. My first band in '66 used to do covers of stuff by The Twilights whose lead singer was Glen Shorrock.

Thanks Drumr, comment much appreciated - covers are what I do.
Unlike many talented and creative people on this forum, I don't consider myself an artist - I'm not artistically creative, I couldn't write a song to save my life. However, there's great satisfaction to be had for us tech-heads helping true artists get their product out to the world.

I'm with you there !, regarding songwriting. I have attempted it in the past, and it always seems like the words get in the way. If I write the lyrics and read them back, it's almost like I've had a dose of ipecac or something. Now trying to invent a good guitar hook or melody, I'm more comfortable with that. Maybe I should find a collaborator ala Elton John/Bernie Taupin style. I really don't mind doing cover songs as I get a thrill out of doing a guitar/vocal part and having it come out sounding just like the record. That's good enough for me ! LOL!

Keep up the great work !!!
John

p.s. Oh, did I mention the Divinyls ??? from Sydney, I think. Another great Australian band from the past. We used to do a cover of their great song "Boys in Town" back in the mid 80's. What a fun song to play. I could watch her sing all day ;-)

That's also what drives me.

The Divinyls - a great band and Chrissie Amphlett is unique, we do Pleasure & Pain. There was a documentary on TV here a few weeks ago about their bassist and his fight with the demon drugs and how he survived. I think they went on the road again recently.
