Hi Everyone,

Just checking to see if there would be sufficient interest to hold an L1® Owners Conference in Spring 2010 in Vancouver.

I have a reasonable venue in which to hold the event. That is, the performance space is big enough (L1® Venue in Vancouver, BC Canada). I've got access to all the L1® gear we could probably need.

I was concerned that accommodation would be an issue but there are hotels within 15 minutes drive.

So what do you think folks? Anyone interested?

A possibility for me, depending on dates! I'd love to come visit the Vancouver, BC Canada area!

Hi John, Roy,

Thanks for chiming in.

If we do the same format as some previous conferences...
Travel in Saturday/Sunday
Opening Sunday afternoon/evening
Conference Monday
Optional Tuesday / Travel Out

I can do
Anytime in February - BUT Vancouver is hosting the 2010 Olympics - and Feb 28 is the date of the closing ceremonies
Sunday ..... Tuesday
Feb 28 ..... Mar 2
Probably better after this.
Sunday ..... Tuesday
Mar _7 ..... Mar 9
Mar 14 ..... Mar 16
Apr _4 ..... Apr 6

Any preferences?

What kind of difficulties are we going to have getting in & out of Canada with gear, laptops, & cell phones? I know this was a problem for you, ST, coming to the states.

BTW, I'd love to come, but I'm not sure what my finances will be at that time.

Well, it sounds good to me. It would depend a lot on the dates, and of course as Tom says finances at the time. I've always wanted to see that area.

Respect,

I would love to come to another conference, ST -I got to attend the one in Cuchara. I'm not sure how the financials might work out, but I'd definitely be interested in trying.

Hi Tom,

Personal electronics (phones, laptops if obviously used) have never been an issue for me in either direction. I usually travel with proof of purchase just in case though.

Same with musical instruments, but there it's not the border that has been an issue, but just air travel in general. I was thinking about that this morning. I've got plenty of Guitars (electric and acoustic). This might be a good excuse for me to finally get a pickup in one of my Taylors if someone really wanted a Taylor. I have a fretless MusicMan bass, and a Trap Kit. If anyone needs something else, I could rent it locally. I'd just need a little advanced notice.

Great idea!

We were hoping 2010 would bring a conference.

Mar _7 ..... Mar 9
Apr _4 ..... Apr 6

The above two would probably be best for us - need to check out the financial side of things, but hope to be there...as we won't be trusting our Taylor guitars to any airline the chance of playing a Taylor would be much appreciated!

Hi Jimmy & Val,

I've got a 655 around here somewhere. We might have to put a microphone on it but I'm sure it would sound great. I've also a couple of six string Taylors too. I'd have to give some thought as to which one would get the pickup. I remember that you play 12 strings but I can't remember what model 6 strings you play.

It would be lovely to meet you both.

March works better for us, but early April might fit in.

This sounds great ST!
I have so wanted to come to Canada, the nicest people live there, it seems.
Nice that there will be plenty of L1s there, as this is one most of us will have to fly in to.
March/April is good.

Near Crescent Beach, BC. This is just a little north of White Rock. Okay, it is technically south Surrey. It is easily within 15 minutes of the US:Canada border at the top of Interstate 5 . It is about 50 minutes south of downtown Vancouver, or 35 minutes from the airport.

I'm noncommittal at this point but sure would like to come. Will wait to see how things work out for me.

I have been trying to iron out plans for another gathering in Montana in early July. Two trips to the area, that close together, might be more than the budget can bear.

What is the weather like in early spring??

O..

Not at all, not even my new fourteen pound model .
But you have drums there, and I'm really wanting to learn from the ever so tasteful Starvin' Rick.
That alone would be worth the trip for me!
We will be happy to just listen, soaking up the vibes and the scenery, a real vacation.
I'll be looking into a passport on Monday!

It is a widely held opinion (held worldwide) that when it comes to the weather, all Vancouverites lie. This well deserved reputation comes of having had a World's Fair here (1986). So Vancouver has opened it's arms to the planet and promised great weather.

But trying to break out of that stereotype...

For sunshine, June, July, August are all usually pretty good. May can be great unless I promise that it will be. December-April can be pretty rainy. Not a lot of sun. It is unlikely to drop below freezing in March but last year on April first, there was snow.

The area we will be in is 30 miles south and maybe 60 minutes drive from the mountains where people will be skiing right up to mid-late April. We will be a sea level and the average temperature in March is about 45 ° Fahrenheit.

Oh yes - I forgot to mention: not only are Vancouverites notorious for lying about the weather ("It's always sunny here"), they are known for a propensity to talk about it forever.
