Bose sells the L1/B1 package for $1999 Guitar Center is selling the L1/B1 for $1899 if you buy in a 2 pak. In California, as in most states, the savings is even greater because Bose has to charge sales tax. That's a total savings of $500 when buying 2 systems from MF. Robert L

So, Bose charges sales tax, while GC does not? Why? Ron Ralph A DJ TO GO Pensacola's Leader in Quality Entertainment!!!

Sorry, I meant to say Musician's Friend does not charge sales tax due to it being mail order. I've heard that Musician's Friend is owned by Guitar Center so I sometimes mistakenly mix their names up. Robert L

Hi Ron, Whether or not you charge sales tax is determined by laws more complicated than I understand. Roughly speaking, if a company does business in the state where the sale is made, tax is charged. GC and Bose have outlets in almost every state and so much charge sales tax to customers purchasing from those states. MF only does business in Oregon and Utah I believe. So long as you purchase from another state, they do not need to charge sales tax. Go figure. Ken

Ken, Thanks for the input. I already ordered and received my 3rd and 4th set of L1's with the double bass bins, thanks to Cap. I received a 10% discount on both since I purchased my first two sets last year. I love this sound system!! Ron Ralph A DJ TO GO Pensacola's Leader in Quality Entertainment!!!

Ken, " Roughly speaking, if a company does business in the state where the sale is made, tax is charged. GC and Bose have outlets in almost every state and so much charge sales tax to customers purchasing from those states." Question... even though Bose does business in a particular state, in this case in Utah and Nevada, the last time I checked, the PAS system is not available in these Bose outlet stores, so if I buy direct from Bose, in this case I would be buying "out of state". Will I still have to pay taxes? Mike

If Bose has outlets in your state - that means that they have nexus in your state for sales tax purposes, and therefore were required to register to collect and pay such taxes in that state. Therefore, yes, you would have to pay a sales tax even though you are ordering them from the Bose company that is located out of state. It's sort of like the same deal with Apple Computer - once they began opening retail stores, they created nexus in the states in which their brick and mortar stores were located. Therefore, when you order something on line and it is shipped directly to your home - you are required to pay sales tax. If you live near a state that doesn't have a sales tax - you should go there and buy them. Even though you should technically declare them on your state income tax and pay a use tax for them, people rarely do this.... Those states that don't have sales tax are New Hampshire, Oregon, Montana, Alaska and Deleware....so having said that, it is unlikely you will be able to do that....oh well.
