Thanks for using The Sketcher!

This is just a quick note to send you a link to your Sketch in case you want to review it, edit it, or share it with others.

Quoting jeff from The Sketcher
quote:
I have a hom stage area, dance floor and bar. I am looking for the most cost effective set up. The above dipiction is the max amount of intruments, The majority of the use would be two guitars and a vocal.

Hi Jeff,

Please tell us more about your music:

  • What kind(s) of music you play?
  • How big is the space you are trying to fill in this home stage setup?
  • Will you have microphones on the Drums?
  • Who is there (audience) - how many, what are they doing while you are performing?
  • Do you have a web site?
  • If no web site, could you post a picture of your ensemble?

Thank you.

Hi jeffe,

I'm away from my computer today, just stopping in when I can. I'll have some ideas for you late tonight. Sorry for the wait.

Of course, others may chime in here in the meantime.

My main suggestion would be to move the drums to the side (or corner) and put the L1 in the middle. A 40x70 room is rather big, and you'd definitely want two B1's to go with the L1.

The other suggestion might be to have a "quiet-ed" corner where you put the guitar amps -- that is, a padded area where you can put the mic'd up guitar amps so they can be run without blasting directly into the room ... let the L1 provide the "volume" while the guitar amps run as quietly as possible and still provide the "tone" desired.

Hi Jeff,

I play in a space about the size you described frequently. It is a non-commercial venue so I have a lot of freedom with respect to stage size and layout. The non-commercial aspect means that we are not competing with revenue generating tables for stage depth.

I have a couple of other home venues where I play frequently that have the similar but slightly less depth.

In a space like yours with " The majority of the use would be two guitars and a vocal." I would set up two L1®s like this.

Legend:
L1® Model II
T1 ToneMatch® audio engine

Basically, it is one L1® Model II for each guitarist.

On System I have a second B1 and PackLite® Extended Bass Package (PackLite® amp + two B1 Bass Modules) to support those occasions when you have put a microphone on the Kick Drum, or when you have a Bassist.

More coming.

Hi again Jeff,

It wouldn't surprise me if you ended up with setup like this.

-- click image to make changes to the live version --

Legend:
L1® Model II
T1 ToneMatch® audio engine
Orange numbers are Systems and Inputs using those Systems.
Blue filled numbers are Channel connections to/from the T1 ToneMatch™ audio engine.

On the right side of the stage I have added another L1®
I have replaced one of the big guitar cabinets with a multi-effects unit (near T1® #4) just to suggest that this is one of several ways to work with electric guitar. I do this and run into a three watt amp with speaker simulators and from there, directly into my Model II.

On the left side I have added another L1®
This would support the Bassist and other instrumentals and vocals that you may have when you expand beyond the basic two guitarists with vocals.

More coming.

Here is Sketch of how I set up for a recent house concert at one of the home venues I mentioned above.

Legend:
L1® Model I/Classic
L1® Model II
T1 ToneMatch® audio engine
L1® Compact

I had T1®s for every L1® except for the Compact (top left) that was great for announcements, occasional talkers in the audience and some light acoustic instruments without pickups. The Compact at the bottom right was in a remote room connected wirelessly.

Here, we had the Drums over at the side because we had a full house and needed to compress the stage depth. Also - the first half of the night was mainly acoustic acts so we didn't fire up the Drums until later.

Here is a picture of the stage area just before the night began.

You can read the whole story in Lots of Acts, Lots of L1®s
