Sad to say that I missed out on the 2 Tonematches. Seems the guy has sold one of them as part of an L1 System, but he still has the other. (Not sure why he had two T1's)
I spent a bit of time in my Music room today and plugged a Mic direct into the powerstand. I was using a Sennheiser E845, and went for preset 18. Yes, it's for the 855, but I figured it might be a good place to start.
Well, Well, Well, Me-Oh-My..... BINGO !!
It's so infuriating to think that this setting has been there all the time, and I've ignored it. I've been far too pre-occupied with Mixers.
Anyway, the difference is astonishing, even in that room.
With that particular preset (I had the EQ on the handset 'flat') my vocal came through exactly as I wanted it - and then some. I definitely would be happy singing 'dry' with that sound
So it has to be the Tonematch now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I said before my budget won't stretch to 2 new T1's, but if this guy that I mentioned puts a sensible price on the one he has for sale, I'll get that immediately.
I think I can use one L1/2B1's + Tonematch for vocals, and use the other L1/2B1's + Handset for my Electric kit (Channel 1) + 1 Vocal (Channel 2)
Then I'll just keep an eye out for another Tonematch on Ebay etc.
One very happy Bunny
I'm glad that you found the sound you were seeking in Preset 18. That's great news.
Good luck getting a T1®.
Stay in touch. I'll be looking forward to hearing about your journey.
In case you want to know more about the Presets you can read the background here:
What is the concept behind ToneMatch® Presets?.
I think this pretty explains your experiences so far.
Just a quickie, regards using my Acoustic kit & Drum mics are there any issues with using a 6 channel passive Mic mixer with the Tonematch.
I have arranged to see a Tonematch tomorrow.
It is still boxed with the power adaptor. It seems that the owner gained it in an exchange deal and kept it merely as back up.
My only real concern is that it has the latest software installed. Will I need to update my Powerstands. I have 2 'Classics'. I am not absolutely certain what version they carry.
One has recently been repaired (Fan would not shut down), and on the repair invoice it mentioned that the latest upgrade had been installed ?
So, I don't know if I have differing versions of software/firmware in the Powerstands.
Can you advise please
There shouldn't be an issue doing this - but I would probably run the output of the mixer to the Model I Power Stand Channel 4. This means that you are NOT using a T1® Channel for the Drums. But I would run the Kick Drum microphone directly to the T1® so that I could use the KickGate® effect.
Here's the rundown.
T1® ToneMatch Audio Engine Channels
available for vocal microphone (probably lead vocal)
available for vocal microphone (probably backup vocal)
Kick Drum microphone - use the KickGate®
Master Output goes to L1® Model I Channel 3 with input level set to 3 (about 10:00 if this were a clock face).
On the 6 channel mixer
Model I Power Stand Channels
available for microphone or instrument
available for microphone or instrument
T1® ToneMatch Audio Engine analog Master Output
Passive Mixer Output (LEFT output).
How does that make sense to you Max?
If you have a PC or a pre-Lion Mac, it is easy to update the T1® Firmware if that is required. If the unit is less than two years old then it is probably fine.
To check the software version on the T1® - plug in the T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine Power Supply and turn on the T1®. It does not need to be connected to anything else.
Right now the latest T1® firmware is 1.8.
Notes: What version of the T1® Firmware do I have?
If the Power Stands are working for you now - you do not need to update them to work with the T1®s. The one that was repaired is probably fine. There have been no new updates in several years.
For the other one... does it say what version of the Presets are installed? Look on the black card on the Power Stand that has all the Presets.
ST - You're a Star !! Thank you
My L1 Classics 'were' both version 2.0.
The information that accompanied the repaired powerstand states :-
"They have checked and wherever necessary, updated your product to the latest hardware and software revisions"
If it's not absolutely necessay, I'd prefer to leave things alone ?
If you are at Presets Version 2.0 then you also running the latest firmware for the Classics.
There was a revision to the Presets (Presets version 3.0) but this applied to the Model I (successor to the Classic). Doing the upgrade to a Classic is not supported, but based on what you have said, this would not convey any value in your situation regardless.
It doesn't not sound to me as though there is any need for you to do anything to the Classics.
You can leave them alone and look forward to plugging in your T1®s.
The Classics are great, and mine are still in regular use.
TONEMATCH - Yip...I got one!!
The guy kept it as back up, so it's not been used a great deal, if at all. The power adaptor and leads etc. were still in the original wrapping with all the manuals.
Just tried it out and everything seems to function correctly. I'll set it up 'Gig-style' tomorrow to get my cabling sorted.
I would say that there seems to be a very slight difference between the sound of my Sennheiser direct into the Powerstand on Preset 18, and the sound of the same Mic through the Tonematch. Nothing that is going to concern me too much, but a difference that surprised me a little.
Give it a thorough try out tomorrow.
All the best
When you are connecting the T1® to the Classic Power Stand - what channel on the Classic are you using?
Connected T1 to Channel 3 with gain set at 3.
That should be fine.
On the T1® : Take a quick run through the other Vocal Microphone Presets. You may find something you like better.
I had chance to play around a bit more with the Tonematch this evening. Put a quick video together for an idea of the Vocal. Hopefully, I'll get one of the Band shortly.
If you want some amusement, the video is on youtube entitled 'Bose L1 Classic + Tonematch' - Bose L1 Classic + Tonematch Tryout
All the best

The link is working now!
When I try it I get
Sorry, first time I've done this Youtube stuff.
Might need to get our Lead Guitarist involved. Far too technical for a Drummer !!
I've copied the URL from the video and attached.

Thanks for posting the video. Nice to get to know you better.
So what do YOU think of the T1®?
Well ST....What do I think of the T1 Tonematch ?
To put it quite simply, "PLEASE SANTA-CAN I HAVE ANOTHER ONE"
In the time I've used the Bose I've been content with the sound that I was getting, BUT, I couldn't seem to come close to the vocal sound that I 'wanted'.
The evolution to the sound that I was searching for is played out in these postings. I've spent almost 18 months playing around with EQ settings etc on Digital and Analog mixers
and I haven't once got this Bose L1 Classic to sound anything like the way it does with the T1 Tonematch.
Now I have the Tonematch, I have the sound I wanted and I am very impressed.
Got a few of the Band converted now, and things are looking good ! (Even if it did take a dodgy video to show them what it's like with EFX Muted)
Happy days !
Pleased to say that I have just got the second Tonematch.
