My name is Matthew Schoening. I am a professional Pro Audio technician, designer, installer, and trainer. I am also a solo artist in LA... www.MrCelloMan.com is my website if you are interested in my music, or credibility.

I play solo electric cello through live looping. I play all over, and usually provide my own PA system. I recently acquired an L1 series II system, and have been using it for gigs. I can't say anything bad about this product... I actually have 2 of them for stereo reproduction, since my effects and looping pedals are designed for stereo imaging.

I used to use a conventional PA system for gigs, and now I use these. Not only do they sound much clearer, and project more evenly; they weigh half as much as my old PA, and they don't take up the entire truck bed in my pick up... In fact, I can fit both systems... Yes, BOTH systems, in the back of my extended cab... Hello Road Trip!

When I first saw the L1 system, my first concern was that they would not be loud enough, being full range drivers in a stack. However, I was blown away when I heard them, and cranked them for the first time. Not only do they hold their own; they distribute sound so evenly that you can use them in just about any space. I have used them for small house parties, large yoga rooms, stages, and even outdoors. The beauty of this system is that pretty much no matter where you are in just about any room, the sound is even.

As a convenient side effect to the controlled distribution of sound, microphone feedback is much less of a problem than it is with conventional PA's. With fewer reflections off of walls, stages, objects, etc, you have fewer possible feedback sources... Pretty much the only way to get this system to feedback is if you take the mic, turn the system up, and aim the mic directly at the speaker, or tilt the mic at what I like to call the "feedback angle"... Every mic will feedback at certain angles to the speaker. I recommend experimenting with yours so you know how to place your microphone at shows. If your L1 system is feeding back, then you probably don't have your microphone set up properly... I do live looping that incorporates a live mic that is being captured in multiple loops... If my set up won't feedback under these circumstances, there is no reason you should be having feedback problems if you know how to place the microphone. Again, experiment in your rehearsal space with ear plugs on, and purposely try to get the mic to feedback... See what angles, and what frequencies are feeding back, and adjust the system and mic placement accordingly. The L1 system helps immensely with feedback, but there is no such thing as "No Feedback".

The weight is evenly distributed into separate gig bags that are easy to carry (with one sub I can even carry the entire system in one trip).

My set up time went from 30 minutes MINIMUM to about 15 minutes on average. Sometimes only 10 minutes ...

Not only does the system sound impeccable, it is fully customizable through the use of the T1 controller. It even has presets for the NS instruments (and many other instruments), that can be altered for your own personal preferences.

The T1 unit is amazing by itself. Regardless of whether or not you have the L1 system, you can utilize this product as a stand alone, easy to use, personal digital mixer. It has 2 outputs for main and monitor feeds, line and mic inputs with phantom power, and each channel can have it's own effects that you can program individually, and independently. I take mine to large "House Sound" gigs as my own personal pre-amp/eq/effects mixer, and simply give them the mixed line out.

I personally recommend this system for any musician, whether you are a guitarist and want to enhance your guitar or amplifier, or if you are a singer and want a simple, easy to use PA to carry around with you.

DJ's: You should consider this system as well. Using it in stereo is possible, and I have heard it will likely be made easier in the next year or so. The way to do it now is this: I use 2 T1's with 2 L1 systems, 4 Subs (2 on each system), and I just run one channel into each T1 and set them evenly. If you have a gig, and you want GREAT sound reproduction, that takes you 15 minutes to set up, I highly recommend this system. You can use up to 4 subs with it as is, but it also has a "sub" output if you have a higher power sub you like to use. You can also add and stack multiple Bose B1 Subs by using an A1 amplifier per 2 additional subs, so you can pretty much have as much bass as you want...

As a musician, engineer, Pro Audio designer and tech, I have to say that this system covers just about everything. I couldn't be happier with it!

Hi Matthew!

Welcome to the board! Glad you joined us here and congrats on your LII/T1 combo.

Your post caught my eye with the title "NS Electric Cello" in it! I am a new owner of an NS WAV4 Bass, and have found the NS-Design presets for the T1 are truly amazing. I see you have found them also! Although I am using a L1 Classic w/2 B1s and a T1, I find the combination of the Bose system and the NS Bass seems to be a very nice marriage for us bass players always seeking "the sound!" I suspect you have experienced the same with your cello.

I'm certainly enjoying the pursuit of making my NS Bass sound as much like an acoustic upright as possible. Many possibilities exist with the T1 functions, plus the presets. From the experience so far with my NS Bass, if anyone has an instrument manufactured for one of the T1 Presets available, they owe it to themselves to try a L1 or LII system with their instrument. The ToneMatch presets of the T1 are definitely a musician's delight.

BTW, nice website. Enjoyed browsing your site!

John
