Here is sketch of our setup currently. We are singing at a larger venue next month and believe we need to add another L1M2 dual bass with TM system for adequate coverage. What is the best way to set this up?

Hi clr44,
Thanks for using The Sketcher! Here is your Sketch; just making it easier for others to see it. -- click image to make changes to the live version -- Legend: L1® Model II T1 ToneMatch® audio engine Orange numbers are Systems and Inputs using those Systems. Blue filled numbers are Channel connections to/from the T1 ToneMatch™ audio engine. There were no notes with this Sketch. |

Hi clr44,
Can you tell us more about the larger venue next month? How large is it? Do you have rough dimensions, number of people? A link to the venue's website would be terrific. I looked back your previous posts and I see that you are a Southern Gospel Quartet. Basically, two L1® Model IIs in close proximity will not provide much more coverage than one. So we need to think about how to apply a second L1® to convey value in the new situation. Knowing more about the larger venue would be helpful. Thanks |

Church sanctuary seating 800-900 on floor with additional balcony for 200. Stage about 5 ft higher than floor audience. From stage front to rear wall under balcony is about 110-120 feet. It is about 75-100 feet wide. The ceilings are extremely high. It really is an acoustic nightmare. We expect the crowd to be about 500-700 for this particular event. We have been here before but used the in house system. We really like our new setup MUCH better and have access to another L1 system if it is decided that we need it.
Thanks Clint |

Hi Clint,
I think you would really enjoy using two L1®s because it is a wonderful experience (more about that in another post) BUT I don't think that it will add much to the projection or dispersion in the space you described. The L1® may not reach the balcony very well. It depends on how high it is, and how far it is from the stage. If there will be people up there, then I would plan on running a line out from the T1® Master Output (¼ inch jack) to the house system - and ask the sound engineer to run that to the balcony ONLY. See how that sounds. If there are house speakers mounted at the back under the balcony, then you might have the engineer run a little of your sound in there too. But I would start off without anything in the house system and add only what is absolutely essential. For the rest, one L1® or two - I would expect things to sound good. Really good. The high ceiling shouldn't hurt. The L1®s don't send much sound up. The width of the space shouldn't be an issue, but the depth might. You may be a little soft at the back of the space but if the listeners are attentive and quiet, this probably won't be an issue. With the stage elevation at 5 feet, then you may want to tip the L1® down just a little bit. You can do this by carefully elevating the rear of the Model II Power Stand legs just a little. I doubt that you need more than an inch. You want to aim the L1® so that the majority of the listeners ears are within the 7 foot high wedge of sound that the L1® projects. |

ST,
For further insight, what setting/situation would necessitate the addition of another system? Also, what would be the best connection scenario for what we do? |

Hi Clint,
I would add another L1® to reach a remote audience. For example: If the performance space was long and narrow I would put the first L1® on the stage and I might put a second L1® part way down the long dimension of the room to service the area farthest away from the stage. I don't think this would thinking applies here.
In the situation I described above, I would route all the inputs through to the T1® Aux output (for the purposes of supplying the second T1®). I would take the output of the first T1® and run that into a second one, and set the digital delay to 1 millisecond for every foot between the two Model II Power Stands. You can read about that in detail here: T1® digital delay for second L1® BUT - completely separate from the issue of using multiple L1®s to service larger audiences... I absolutely love then sound of multiple L1®s when you have more than one performer. Please see: Localization to find out why. I would put two of you (left two) into one L1® and two of you (right two) into another L1®. Compared to using a single L1® this won't give you more coverage or allow you to share with a significantly larger audience, but it will sound wonderful. |
