Hey gang

Is there any way to test the individual speakers to find out which one(s)are blown? Perhaps via the T1

I have some definite distortion when I hit certain highs when singing. I can hear the crackling as plane as day (only when I hit those hights vocally). Its not awful and I can prevent it by controlling my output (actually it has taught me how to control my output so as to keep it from happening) but...it is still there! Not sure how it happened.

If I am able to determine which speaker, at least I wouldn't have to send in both halves of the "stick."

Thanks as always

Hazen

Hi Hazen,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your L1®.

You will have to talk to someone in Support to make arrangements to send your Cylindrical Radiator® back anyway.

Why not call them now and see if they have suggestions.

Call Bose® Product & Technical Support at (877) 335-2673 (U.S. and Canada only)
Monday-Friday: 8:30 AM - 9:00 PM ET
Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET
Currently no support available on Sunday

But here's a thought.
If you take the top section off and the sound persists, then the problem is the bottom half. If it goes away, it was the top.

Call Support anyway - you'll have to do it a some point.

Does this happen with any other source of sound that matches that loudness & frequency? If so, it might be the L1. However ...

If you just turn down the Trim on the L1 (if using analog connection) or the T1 Master (if using the T1 digital link), does it still happen? If so, then it may be that the mic itself is causing the distortion -- that is, you are "over-driving" the mic itself. The only solution there is to "back off" the mic during those loud passages -- or try a different mic.

You could also diagnose this by using something other than the L1 (such as a headphone) to listen to the output of the T1. If the crackle is still there, then it's probably the mic.

If, however, the distortion/crackle is purely a function of the overall volume & pitch at the L1, no matter what "source", then ...

You can at least try it without the top half (Model 1 & Model 2) -- it won't hurt the L1. If the 'crackle' goes away completely, then it seems to be the top half; if not, I can think there still might be a couple of causes.

In any case, if it is NOT mic-induced crackle, call Bose.

Thanks ST. It really isn't that big of a problem. I am and have been very pleased with my toy! Smile I didn't know I could lift off the top and simply play the bottom half! Huh!

You know, Dan, you may be right. And I have been doing that as late. Backing off a bit when I hit the "highs." Again, if anything, the distortion, whether it be mic related or L1 related is indeed teaching me how to project relative to my position at the mic.

I am using a Shure SM51. And all the settings on the T1 and the main unit are as stated. But I am sure, everyone resonates differently. And I can see it being the mic. Simply because I haven't really pushed the L1.

Like I said, (ST) I am not unhappy at all. All is fine. It is not a problem as of yet.

Thanks guys!

Hazen

Hi Hazen,

Check out your T1® Gain Staging

--== click the picture to see it in context ==--

If you are seeing red on the T1® you need to turn down the trim a little.

I looked back and saw that you are running a and L1® Model I with two B1s (is that right).

So another thing to check is your trim settings on the Model I Power Stand.

What Power Stand Channel are you using and what is the trim or level setting?

See Power Stand input setting with T1® for detailed suggestions.

Yes before I had same problem with distortion, but I found , that microphone itself have distortion , when singing too much close, ( Shure BG 4.1 condencer ), when I change to another microphone specially for vocal, problem was solved . Not every microphone is good for very loud sounds or close micking, even if You use for vocal with "windsheld", just distorted membrane itself or because of close micking to mouth, membrane become wet, & it change totaly timbre & sensitivity of mic.
