I have a Model II 2 B1s and Tonematch. \
When I crank up the BOSE I have been getting what sounds like eithe a rattle or speaker distortion. I have Had the system nearly 2 years now.... The only time it gets bad is with vocals. I can replicate the sound with a number of mics, so I dont think its the mic..

I opened up the top pole section just to look at each speaker and they seem to be ok at least on the material part--didnt actually inspect and dismantle each speaker.

Is there anything that could have come loose? Spound seem to be coming from the center, or just above.

Hi Vinnie,

The *rattle* you hear is probably a blown B1 unit.
I have had three go bad over five years.
They all sound as if there is a loose piece of wood inside the cabinet.

However, in my experience, the speaker only rattled when *lower* frequencies were run through it.
You might try taking the B1s, one at a time, out of the equation to make sure which one (if either) it is.

Your B1 is probably under warranty, if so, the repair will be free.
Have your B1 serial number ready when you...

If you rule out the B1 as a source and still have a problem, I just fixed a problem that sounds similar to yours on my Compact. My compact got knocked over at a gig and I had since then a bad rattle with certain vocal and guitar frequencies. When I shook the top array section of the compact I could hear something was loose inside. If you shake the pole sections, do you hear something loose? Also visual inspection from the front showed nothing wrong.

I know the speakers are different in the Model II, but the construction may be similar. If you do hear a rattle, I guess you have to send it in. I do not recommend opening up your tower unit, as I did, but I'll tell you what happened to mine to see if it makes sense to you.

In the fall, the magnet/dust cap on the back of the top speaker fell off. Not a real simple fix as far as getting it all apart, but a little epoxy and about 15 minutes had me back in business. Again, I'm not recommending you take yours apart. I'm somewhat fearless when it comes to this stuff so I went for it, voiding the warrantee I'm sure.

While I'm at it, I can tell you that I also had to open up the base of the compact to fix another issue from the fall. This was a little trying but do-able. I'll only say that what I saw in there was.......amazing Wink

the rattle is definately coming from the pole, but I will try taking each b1 out of the equation.
. I am going to set it up tomorrow afternoon and troubleshoot.
