I've been thinking about the time we had at Big Sur. Thanks for this reminder. - but wasn't it April 24th?

This last year has just flown by, and as the pace of life changes and the passage of time seems to accelerate, it is good to pause, reflect and notice.

Doing that, it's abundantly clear that the days at Big Sur were some of the best ever. Thank you Joseph, Barklie, Brock, Teresa, Ken, Cliff, Kyle, Chris and all who were a part of that exceptional time.

You're right, it was April 24th to be truly eaxct ... Guess we were just sort of generalizing the time period within our memories ...

Barklie has torn down the room just outside of the Hidden Barn & is building a large studio booth with Cam ... It will also have a huge bedroom on top of it for guest musicians to stay in, as he wants to start having folk do many more recording projects ...

I'm reading thru all this (thanks for posting Joseph), thinking of you all and bringing it all back. My favorite moment (is it possible to choose one?) was David Schiffman's sort-of concluding synopsis/statement of, basically, who we all are. Just around the time of the fall/Ashland conference, I finally got a video with a relatively unintelligible audio track. I put the audio in Sound Forge, EQ'd it for max intelligibility, got what I could off the recording, sent the transcription to David and got this message back. "Thanks" is the best I can do right now David, if you're listening (somehow I know you are), but it's an inspiration for us all:

When you study creative intentions you see that this call to authenticity turns us in a direction that requires real risk-taking and that it can become the substance of everything precious we feel in our creative lives. This statement by David leaves me just as breathless today as it did a year ago. My heart was pounding then as he spoke these words, & it's pounding today as I read them again.

Big Sur was such an unbelievable time & I'm still at a loss to express what really happened & how deeply it has affected me.

Joseph, it's so good to have you here: I can see your smiling face and twinkly eyes.

I heard from the wonderful Aaron Stone a few days ago and we're going to try and hook up on my next West Coast Swing. He bought his wife, a professional cellist, an L1™ system recently and he said that it has changed her life -- the gold ring of amplification is I think his words.

Joseph, please give my fondest regards to Barklie and the Gang. Tell 'em we'll never forget our time together, and look forward to the next event you'll be able to see from outer space -- if you can see in the 12th dimension.

Only a year? And yet that oasis remains untouched by time in my mind. We are still together and will be forever, my dear friends. It changed my life. It was when I found the courage to be myself, brought to my birth by your wonderful encouragement. And I know many other births were shared there as well. (Hi Julie, I'm thrilled for you!) On this anniversary, I reach out to touch you all, smile in your eyes and give you my love.

I also have great memories of the time you all came to gather in the remote world of Big Sur state of mind... What a wonderful moment meeting all of you... Ken, Cliff, Chris, da brains and inspiration behind these L1s... thank you so much, my little drums sound so full and rich.. the L1 and four B1s let the smallest taps on the rim become "music for humans." The live musical energy of the gathering still lives within me, as do all of your smiling faces... Lets do it again...

Hi all and belated happy anniversary too! It's good to see everyone here. Sorry about being somewhat absent from the forum recently but increased corporate constraints about posting on public forums and time in general have kept me from being able to contribute. Fortunately that's all better now. I'll explain more later in the post.

Cliff - Thanks for posting the transcription of David Schiffman's brilliant words of wisdom. What's really wild is I can vividly hear David's voice as I read that transcription. I have read it several times and no matter what, I read the words as if he is talking. Thank's again Cliff for bringing that back into my memory and forever preserving it in writing.

Over the past few years, I have been pondering leaving the corporate world and doing something else that will eventually allow me the freedom to spend more time doing things that I like doing and just having control over that. On top of leaving Big Sur with "the vibe" (see some of my post Big Sur notes) I realized "I gotta do somethin' else!" (I can hear that in Cliff's voice!") Coming back from Big Sur, I had an inspiration to make that happen which started a chain of events that finally came to fruition. So, as of May 11th I am leaving the corporate world and starting my own business. I have hesitated to post anything about that until this point because you never know when Big Brother is watching. As of July 1st I will be opening my own insurance office and will be my own boss. Granted, it will take a little time to build and some hard work but it will be mine and hopefully will allow me the freedom to spend more time with music. (I know, I know, Cliff's comic trip this last week about "musician's at their day jobs" hits way too close to home but is hilarious and the timimg is perfect.)

That's my Big Sur - One Year Later story. Thanks everyone ! Hopefully we can do it again sometime soon!
