FYI - remember those wonderful Triport headphones some of us got in the beginning for buying our L-1's? I don't know about yours, but the black material on the ears started flaking away recently, and came away from the foam padding. Bose wanted almost a 3rd of the cost of the headphones to replace just the ear parts, but my wife Melissa had a cheaper idea - cover them with Peds - ladies nylon footwear - which works just fine.
Mine started doing that a few months ago and I was thinking of doing the same thing.
Then, about three days ago, my new dog got hold of them and chewed up the earpads!
So I had him buy me a new set.
By the way, the ratchet on mine also gave up the ghost (I've been using them constantly for years, so I'm not surprised). I fixed it with a couple of zip ties. They look ugly, but they still sound great!
