In addition to the concert tonight, the band -- Mary, Jill, and Brenda -- have been here all day working with Cliff, Joe, and Chris making custom ToneMatch presets for their array of Celtic instruments.

This is the first time we've been able to make a six-year-old dream come true: create custom ToneMatch presets, burn them into an L1 and have a performance, all in the same day.

Later, I'll have some pictures from the day and from the evening's performance.

So far, we've done the hammered dulcimer, the bouzuki (sp?) and worked on the miked instruments.

A little less than two hours before show time...

The T1s are all burned with the new presets and some other goodies we'll be announcing soon.

Here's a few shots from earlier in the day working on the hammered dulcimer...

Mary wasn't afraid to dig in on fine tuning the graphic equalizers (two, in series). This was neat, as she knows the sound of the instrument really well.

Brenda plays the hammered dulcimer.

Talk about hammered...

Here's what we ended up with on the graphics. Keep in mind these are two graphics in series.

Look at how much EQ was needed to optimize the sound of this instrument.

Neat, huh???

Next, Joe measures the transfer function of the two graphics and make a special file that then becomes a T1 compatible file...

Only one graphic was needed for the bouzuki (sp?) but here again you can see there's a lot of EQ needed to get the best sound.

Cliff helped Jill with excessive sibilance in her voice using the ParaEQ on the T1 and then tuned the miked sound of her flute, her penny whistle, and her accordion.

EQing the flute with zEQ.

This is an unusual instrument with a boxwood headpiece on a silver flute -- very smooth and luscious sound, and needed little EQ.

The accordion had a little too much bottom end and a thunking sound on certain notes that Cliff was able to eliminate...

The beauty here was being able to save all these changes as a scene...

This was the moment of truth.

Chris (second from left) had made the T1 files with the new custom presets and send them to Brenda's T1.

Then the magic moment...

Select the new preset...

And play...

I hope to post pictures and commentary from the show this weekend.

I hope Mary and Jill and Brenda will also post some thoughts about their experiences here.

See ya!

Wow, love this post. Seeing photos of the 60 odd band graphic EQ really helped explain alot about Tonematch presets.

Guess I'm too early. Can't wait for show pics and comments.

I love the way you guys go all out to help us deliver the sound we want to deliver. What a great experience for this band with the wide variety of (somewhat unusual) instruments.

I'll be back.

O..

Hi Folks,

Well, at the last minute we had a computer glitch...

AND A GREAT SHOW.

We had trouble downloading the 2 new presets to the T1s and Cliff ended up dialing in their EQ by ear (again) up at the auditorium. We're breaking in a new DSP person (Chris in the photos above) and the software for converting raw transfer functions to T1 food is not easy. It worked the day before yesterday!

More important, Banshee in the Kitchen played to a packed auditorium and blew everybody away. The Bose crowd LOVED them. They sold a whole bunch of CDs afterward (always a sign of a great show) and I think people were genuinely thrilled with the music.

Photos forthcoming...
