Joseph,
I have a two week family vacation planned that goes from the 8th to the 22nd so for me (not that it should be all about me) the best april dates would be early (2nd or 3rd) or late in the month (30th ish). Since I'll be flying out I'll make a biz trip out of it and meet with customers, partners, etc. while on the West Coast so I'm okay with any day of the week. Thanks for the consideration, Steve |

Joseph, Thanks for your kind reply. Please don't feel bad, I realize this is a huge thing and there are a lot of people and schedules to take into consideration. I applaud you for taking responsibility. I'm sure you and Ken can come up with something that'll work for all of us. Best of Luck Jeff www.theunmentionables.com |

I think Mondays are best for a few reasons:
• fewer conflicts with weekend gigs • folks flying in can travel on a non-workday (one way, anyway) • those of us wanting to make a mini-vacation of it can treat it as a long weekend • the least change in routine for the Natives • likely greater availability of hotel rooms, campsites, etc. Having said that, now watch: I'll be the one who gets work for that day that I can't turn down... |

Hi Folks,
I spent the day with Joseph in Big Sur. First of all, Joseph is a totally beautiful, soulful, kind and generous human being. We had a ball together. The mountain top studio is simply breathtaking. You are perched looking west to the Pacific Ocean. You can see all the way to Japan. The owner is a lovely and vibrant man who loves the Cylindrical Radiator speaker, and has a lifelong devotion to live music and dance. We met and talked for a long time as the sun set spectularly over the ocean. (When I get home I'll post some pictures.) The Big Sur area is totally magical. The air alone makes you feel heathier every minute. There are many places to stay and a wide range of prices. There's hiking galore, and great beach walking. A drive along Hightway 1 on a nice day is very memorable. The studio is in my opinion the perfect place to have a get together. The mountain top is dead quiet although at night if you listen carefully you can hear the surf several miles below you. It's dreamy. Joseph, ST, Alan, and I are working on a date and hope to be able to make an announcement in the next few days. We hope all of you will come. With best regards, Ken Jacob Chief Engineer |

Yes... we surely had a great time hanging out together... to quote ST, "Ken is a Gem," which describes him thoroughly ... Not to mention he's full of wit and brains enough to cover a great many subjects... translated in California slang... 'Ken's one ubiquitous dude with an aura of integrity'...
It was a 'trip' to see and feel how naturally he fit into the overall Big Sur vibe... just as if he's always been part of it ... I've known the philanthropic owner for quite some time now and observed how he was immediately comfortable in Ken's smiling and respectful presence. Anyhow... I've noticed that this thread has had over a thousand hits... so who else is planning to come once we confirm the finalized date? This is very important because when you have made the decision to come, I have to send private directions personally to each one of you. The necessary details needed to drive directly to the studio once you turn off of Highway One... Check this out... I found this link to Mickey Muennig, the Big Sur Architect's website. In the left hand column, click on "Music Studio" and you'll get some cool shots of the Hidden Barn studio when it was first completed: http://www.mickeymuennig.com/ Ciao, the Joseph |

Joseph,
I wonder if all those hits are from "non-West" folks as well as "West" folks. I wonder if there might be another location (Mid or South or East) for a gathering of Bose-o's. Steve |

I'm up for a Northeast Bose-o gathering. Maybe one with Cap Capello and the rest of the @Bose people who live/work up here.

Glad to hear Ken has been Big Sur-izd~~believe me, it's now part of his being as I'm sure it will be with all of you who chose to come to the wonderland, Big Sur.
Unfortunately, I'll be out of town most of April and all of May~~still that's a few months away and plans might change~~ya never know. There are a lot of hits on this thread~~We're all curious to know who's gonna be there~~ speak up Bose-O's...? What about Noel-at-his-house-in-California??? Sounds like you're closer then most Noel??? |

Actually I have been considering it, but it will be one of those last minute decisions. It depends on how my back is at the time and if it will allow me to drive out there…

I've been away from the forum for a while - but have been connected to this thread Thru Alan. Sounds (and looks) like a marvelous event - I am looking carefully at those surrounding dates, and certainly would bring addition gear (horns, windcontrollers, Bose) as needed.

Here's a picture of Rick Turner and me from my scouting trip to Big Sur and Santa Cruz.
Remember, this guy started Alembic, built Lesh's quad-bass, and built the Wall of Sound. He told me of the first time they tried the concept at the Boston Music Hall (!!!), now called The Wang Center (I really liked the old name). What happened is that they already were using the homemade differential mikes (two B&K 1/2" capsuled summed differentially) because it cleaned up stage sound through the mikes on their conventional rig. The Music Hall is very ornate and could not accomodate their FOH rig so they said, hey, let's try that thing we've only talked about and put the PA behind the band. What else can we do? So they stacked up their PA and everyone was astounded by the clarity. They then started working on refining the system and it morphed into the Wall of Sound. Rick was there for all of it. A true pioneer and a titan in my opinion. Ken Jacob Chief Engineer ![]() |

I just received notice that our Live Music Technology Group manager from Europe, Guy Balbaert will be joining us, as will his colleague Wiechert Vermeulen.
Guy and Wiechert are both professional musicians, Guy a songwiter, singer and guitarist, and Wiechert a horn player. This is great news. Guy and Wiechert will join Ken, Cliff and Kyle as of now. Ken Jacob Chief Engineer |
