So we are all going to be together in one place for a day or two. Let's see what we'd like to talk about.

Here are some ideas, and it would be terrific if you would add to the list or just comment on what is here:

  • B1s and Tone (the effect on tone, headroom, etc of adding additional B1's, whether via an additional PS1 or the PackLite)
  • Dual mono, and the frequency cancellation that can ensue
  • Equipping the band (for those folks who are doing the gear for everyone).
  • Guitar Tubes, Amps, Modellers
  • Improvements and wish list
  • Introducing new performers to the System.
  • Long term user perspectives
  • Making it work as a house system
  • Microphones (some of the different popular mic choices, like the KMS 105, the Audix OM5, and the Shure Beta 87A)
  • Mono vs stereo, especially for sequenced or prerecorded trackstracks (background for live performers)
  • Where is the market and how to reach them?
  • Where we first met - talking about the forum

Nothing here is cast in stone, it's just a place to start talking about talking.

Be there in spirit.

Even if you think you will be elsewhere on April 24/25 you can be there in spirit.

Is there something you would like us to try for you? Something you would like to see discussed in a face-to-face setting?

Tell us about it here.

Thanks.

You've thought through about everything I could think of offhand. Let me put some thought to it to come with some more topics.

Attention the Ken... Just got this e-mail from John Nava... our main Big Sur Native "Conguero"...

Hey Joseph,

I'm just following up on our conversation that took place last Sunday. I'm wondering if BOSE has ever contacted Raul Rekow and Karl Perrazo of Santana fame about their systems?

I went to a clinic at Guitar Center in San Jose last year and both of these great percussionists were using the BOSE system. The sound was awesome! I was in the front row and it was not at all overpowering.

While I'm on the subject, does BOSE have any well-known percussionists coming to the gathering at the hidden barn for April 25, the press day? And if not WHY? I would love to hear (once again) how sweet percussion sounds thru this amazing system.

So Joseph, if anyone can get the answers to my questions, I know you can.

Much respect,

John E. Nava

Here's he is again...

Hey The Joseph,

How you doin? I'm sending lots of heavy positive vibe to you, right now.

Santana? Never heard of them. Now Jethro Tull, now HE'S AWESOME!

(smile)

Seriously, what a cool message from John. I've been listening to the Big Sur Natives and Barefoot CDs you gave me on my visit and I'm totally loving them. I've got them CRANKED in the car and yesterday I almost drove off the road I was so tranced.

I wasn't completely clear from John's message: is he saying that Raul and Karl own systems or that they were using them for a clinic? Either way, I'd love to extend to them a personal invitation to attend our Bash-o-rama.

Is that something I can do?

Ken

p.s. Here's a picture of Yubad Sef, the legendary guitar player in the Big Sur Natives. Could anything but good come from a face such as his?

Yup~~that's 'the Joseph'~~ he's really an easily approachable dude~~ I've talked to him more then once with my friends and he's always friendly and informative~~ he has no idea who I am and I get such a kick out of that~~ Cool

The 'conguero', John Nava~~ he's the other guy who is in Joseph's smooth Jazz duet. The dudes got serious percussion chops man! I haven't caught him with the Big Sur Natives yet, but I'm really glad to hear he's in the band. I didn't know that he was, because I've only seen scaled down versions of the Natives.

First caught their duet at the Santa Cruz Jazz on the Wharf festival last year~~ In fact, it's being advertised for next month, but it doesn't have a list for the performers yet (at least not on the poster I saw). Hope they're gonna be there~~so are ya Confused

I was once told to "get down with Yubad Sef" and he never showed up so I danced alone.

I don't know what to think about that photo.. it's so big...I guess that's the title of this thread "face to face" 'eh... Smile

Actually, in truth, I think only a mother could luv that face.. Roll Eyes

Here's John Nava's reply when I asked him your question Ken...

Karl Perrazo owns Mona records. This company also manages Raul Rekow. If you want to inquire about the possibility of them attending you can call: 510-633-1877 or:
pmmusic@mona

Mona Records
PO Box 381
San Leandro, Ca. 94577-0381

Hey Lydian dude... I too find it amusing you haven't introduced yourself. But hey, mystery is cool!

And yes, I'll be playing in a duet with John Nava for the Santa Cruz Jazz on the Wharf Festival on March 5th upstairs at Stagneros. It Will be the 5th year in a row.

How about we have a discussion entitled:

Chop Shop

Let's enjoy

  • Our friendly and supportive atmosphere (Bros in Bose don't you know) and
  • Our varied musical directions

We could work on our chops together.

Maybe we can also get my, Ken and Rick Turner's friend Bill Walker, to perform a looping demonstration for us on Tuesday ... he's a master of the looping technique and quite the scholar about it... (something I know very little, if absolutely nothing, about)...if that sounds interesting to anyone?

Ciao, the Joseph

So is it weird if someone who already talks to himself says, "count me in dude!" ?

Looping is getting pretty popular these days~~I know a couple of guys who are super into it~~ one is an amazing bass player who solos over the top of these outrageous grooves he lays down. I bet this would really sound 'huge' through the Bose~~ So Joseph, you don't ever use looping with the Big Sur Natives? I'm just assuming this from what you said?

Hi Joseph,

I think the idea of inviting Bill Walker is fantastic, and I would be very supportive.

Can you invite him?

Ken

Yes Ken... Bill might come Monday night and if so, there's a possibility we can get him to perform a few of his looped pieces for us... I'll keep in touch in with him.

So then maybe we should start thinking about who (how many) will be performing Monday and what the sequence should be...?

By chance, Is Cliff planning to play for the Bose-O's West?

Ciao, the Joseph

Joseph

Thanks for asking. Cliff was not planning to play but will surely do so if there's a keyboard instrument available and an opportunity for this on the setlist. This is a new wrinkle. What's up with this?

A new wrinkle?

I was so hoping that we'd all get a chance to share some music.

Play some, write some, maybe even record a bit.

I will at least have a Roland XP-60 with me that people are welcome to use. Depending on how tightly packed the car is, I might bring an 88 key Kurzweil instead.
