Ladies and gentleman, let me start the ball rolling on a thread dedicated to discussion of a Midwest USA jam, featuring the beloved L1 Loudspeaker and its family of products and users. My name is BabyBlueEyes, and I'm a Bose-a-holic.

Several have expressed interest in a couple different threads - boys, you know who you are - and it seems that some so-called "official" chat should be had to begin ironing out details. St. Louis area members have already thrown in their enthusiasm and expressed willingness to help plan the event.

For those reading this for the first time, here is what there is to know...(awkward silence).

Okay, here are the consensus ideas as I know them so far:

Location - St. Louis-ish; Gateway to the West to host the Musical Gateway to the Best.

Time of Year - Summer, perhaps late Spring

Duration - One full day

Overview - All day music fest inviting the public to attend. Bands featured will use the L1 system exclusively. Maybe a better way to say it, "The bands will consist of L1 users." Yes, that was cleaner. Just like our stage.

Okay, let's chat.

Nathan

EDIT FOR THOSE READING THIS THREAD FOR THE FIRST TIME

JULY 14, ST. LOUIS - DETAILS UNFOLDING OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS

JUMP TO THE END OF THE THREAD AND BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE WIKI FOR THE EVENT BY CLICKING ON THE LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF MY POST HERE. YOU MAY SEE IT AS THE SIGNATURE OF A COUPLE OTHER MEMBERS AROUND THE FORUMS HERE.

Hi Nathan,

I set up a wiki page for this:

You can use this for ideas and details distilled from the discussions.

Midwest L1 Enthusiasts 2007

What tends to happen with discussions, is occasionally a detail gets finalized or at least semi-permanently agreed upon as tentative. You can also use this for lists of things like possible venues, possible acts, possible dates.

That's the kind of thing that can go in the wiki.

Think of it as a bulletin board without all the conversation.

That'll work. Thanks, ST. I posted the information I have above there, at least in part. It seemed to experience a problem, and I can't get back to it following your link here. I'll check it again later.

Thanks again.

Hey, P,

I had both of our groups listed yesterday, but then had the difficulties I alluded to above. Seems like all is well this morning.

I can't see Paula or Doc going down, but I bet anything Rob would be up for it, and I'm sure a very capable keys player and drummer would be on hand. I like to consider an upStandard to be anyone who plays behind my vocal. You know, kind of like any airplane the President is on is named Air Force 1. Yeah, that's the ticket...President BlueEyes... re: date ... if it happens to land near July 4 (e.g. July 1 thru 5th or 6th) I may be able to convince my family to juggle a trip we are planning to Baton Rouge and Texas to coincide with that day that week -- we can't bring an L1 with us (we'll have a carload!), but I'll have my fingers for any keyboard - particularly if anyone has any charts.

If nothing else ... to listen!

That's good news Dan!
Nathan & I were just discussing what would happen if his keyboardist couldn't make it.
Do you know much Sinatra? Smile

Not all Sinatra, Pete, but that's a good start for sure!

Oh, for keys, I'll bring my GEM Pro2 for the day.

I don't "know" too much of the old standards of most any popular genre to play them cold -- but I'm a mean chart-reader/sight-reader ... and even if I have chords over the words, I can usually follow along to make that work -- though it may not be a "cover" in style! Wink For most pop stuff, chord changes are pretty predictable. In a band, where most everyone else knows the song, I can usually even hold up the keyboard end even if I've never heard it before (as long as it doesn't start with a keyboard solo Big Grin) My approach is that of an accompanist ... my job is to make the soloist sound good!

However, I know there are a lot of keyboardists around (many, many better than me!) ... focus on the right venue when the most folks can participate.

I made contact with the park district in Collinsville. They are interested and open to a discussion of us using their site. I will wait though, I want to contact the New Town St. Charles people also.

I'm just running with some of this,,,, hope no one minds. If they do, please let me know. If ya'll would feel better about just staying in a hotel somewhere to meet, that's OK with me too.

Now the real question....How do I get directly to the Wiki from the Main Menu of the Board, without going thru ST's link in his note? I realize this is probably a simple answer, but I just couldn't find how to do it. I did try looking around first, before asking this question.... honest!!

Also, is there any HELP files for the Wiki? I tried to edit some stuff, but didn't have any luck. All help is MUCH appreciated!

Hi John,

The wiki is an "unofficial" project and at the moment, there are no links from the message board. We did a soft-launch a couple of months ago. No formal announcements.

Some folks have added a link in their signatures.

I don't "sign" all my posts, but I did for this post, and there are links there too.

For a quick start see Wiki Team and this is open to all.

One thing I'm asking everyone to do, is to use the same username on the wiki as they use here so we understand who you are.

I'm sorry that you had trouble editing. So we don't derail this discussion, I'll start a new discussion for wiki questions in a few minutes and get back to you with a link. I have started a new discussion for the wiki site:

Hi John,

Many thanks for "running with this".
You are the obvious choice to scout out local venue possibilities.
I will probably spend the night in St Louis after the jam, and maybe even the night before,
but that doesn't mean this has to take place at a hotel at all.

My only comment will be that I prefer the "sound" of the L1s indoors over outdoors,
providing that the venue has decent acoustics. Also, the weather won't rule over us.
A stage area large enough to accomodate 6-8 systems,
and where we can comfortably work to rearrange wires and things would be nice.

We trust the judgement of a man who would buy an L1.

Keep us posted.

P

I second that. Go, John, go! Only makes sense since you are right there. I truly appreciate your enthusiasm.

I like indoors, too, mostly because of the weather. I "sold" a system based on how it sounded outdoors, so I don't worry too much about that aspect. A further comment on the weather - even if we are covered completely, inclement weather will hamper the attendance. Of course, indoors may limit audience size...hmmm.

It would be great if you could make it Ken!
Is there a time during spring/summer that is not good for you?

The last week of June and the first two weeks of July are usually the window for our family vacation so those are not good. Please do NOT build this around my schedule. It's better to just GO and I'll be there if I can.

Ditto, schedule permitting I'll come for sure. June is better for me too.

Again, don't schedule it around me.

Very cool guys!

St. Louis user here from day 1. Don't know if I could get my full band to play but sounds fun. I'll keep in touch through the wiki and this thread.
