Has anyone tried the three optional model packs? Is the extra $200 worth spending?

I have the model packs but don't remember paying that much for them though.

I feel they are worth it, depending on what you want to accomplish. They will give you additional tonal options, which may or may not be needed. I found a couple that I really liked, so that is why it is worth it to me. Smile

Model packs are $50 each, except for the bass package which is $99.

I just love having all these choices.......

I bought them for my guitar player for the metal ones. I wasn't really getting any stock sounds I liked until we did.

Basically I got them cause I wanted to cut down on twiddleing and just have it close to right with a pre set up patch.

I guess I'm not too good with math - can someone explain the "deal" with the Model Packs where, if I buy two $49 Model Packs (Metal Shop and Collector Classics) along with a third - the one I already have installed for free in my podXt Live (FX Junkie) - then I get three Model Packs for the price of two? Sure sounds like I get two for the price of two, if I already have one of the three legally.

"I think you're a little too good with math."

I've been accused of some weird things in my life, but this has GOT to take the cake!!!

I thought that sounded a little odd.....

Ya, I was kind of pissed to find that they charged extra for model packs. Way to squeeze a dime out of someone, especially since they know a lot of effects guitar users are going to want the metal ones.

Might not have bought it if I found out they charged extra for something that should be free.

If you can only afford one, I suggest the efx pack. I often use the XT as a pedalboard in front of a good old amp. The efx pack gives me lotsa useable choices for OD, Dist, Mod, Delay and Verb. Turn all the XT amp stuff off, properly adjust the level into the amp and it's pretty decent pedalboard with much more recall than an analog.

I've got them all in my PODxt, and like them. However I don't really do much (yet) with the bass pack. That's probably for the reason that I'm using my PODxt iside an Atomic amp, that can't really deliver the extra low's on most Bass amps.

The other 3 MP's I use on a regular basis. I like to have my options open. Probably cause I'm spoile with Vetta and have it their also (except the Bass amps).

Ask yourself what you really need or try them for 30 days. You can do that and 'send' them back with a refund within that period.

Hope it helps

Of course you know that the XT Live comes with the FX pack pre installed. That's why the tripple pack deal doesn't 'add' the 3rd pack to you. All other PODxt series don't have that..

I'm a little confused - at first, I thought the bass pack was something I could use with my Variax 700 and podXt Live - cool...a six string digital bass - but then I read more about it and was left with the impression that the bass pack is for the Bass podXt only. How does this work?

The lin6 web site may be a thought to consider. It answered all my questions when I purchased my model packs. They keep it pretty well up to date far as I can tell. There actually good about answering their phones with people who can help if you need to go that far also.

Another thought is the line6 forums. There actually pretty good on the subject of model packs, etc. The forums have their weak points unfortunately, but your questions would probably get better answers there I would think.

Just some thoughts that I hope help.

Hi Guitarget.

The Bass pack is a collection of bass amp models. They're added to your PODxt (series) as all other modelpacks. The difference is the amps inside the bass pack.

It works like all the other ones, pay, enable and play.

It enables you to play bass on your PODxt (like it would on a bass podxt) with bass amp models or you can play guitar through bass amp models (or any other instrument).

It's a good solution to recording bass and not having to buy another modeler to do that, it saves hassle..

One thing to think about is when you play live on what your setup is. If you have the L1 system and change from guitar to bass playing you may need to have a look on your setup.

In a traditional setup (Backline and P.A.) you may need a different speakersystem, since the freq.range of the bass and bassamps go way down low.

Hope it helps

Just to be even more clear. The bass modelpack doesn't add models to your Variax, so you don't get bassguitarmodels.

If this would be the case they'd probably call it something like a bassguitarmodelpack or variax modelpack.

---

Not to confuse but you can get alterations with Workbench for your Variax 700. (Virtually Tune down 1 octave)

Thanks, Vettaville. Now I get it.

One of the best guitar sounds I ever got was a Fender Strat running through a Fender Bassman amp, so this could be pretty cool.

I wonder, would I have to add another B1 to my L1 w/B1?

Most probably!! While a single B1 is usually fine for regular guitar (if you don't use your guitar as a drum also), with a bass guitar (even if just modelled), you'll likely really be much happier with (at least) 2 B1's.

I have no face left. It was ripped off yesterday when I started going through a downloaded podXt bundle put together by a talented guy who calls himself "syntax sinner" over at the Line Six Forum. I finally got the Model Packs that added a whole pile of amps and effects, so I could finally use the new bundle, which is highly rated by users on the Line Six Forum. Wow. Had to turn everything down, right off the bat. There is a tremendous amount of "oomph" in my guitar sound now - it'll take me a while to figure it all out, but it was well worth the $99 for Metal Shop and Collector's Classics.
