This question is strictly for L1 folks who are also users of both K&K mini pickups and K&K Preamps (either Pure or Pure XLR).

(If you are using another preamp or pickup, please refrain from trying to convince me/us that your rig is better. You may well be right, but that's not what this discussion is about. Smile )

OK, So you use the K&K mini pickup and either the Pure or Pure XLR preamp. Here are my questions:

- Have you a/b'd with and without the preamp?
- Does the preamp make a difference for you with your L1 setup? in other words...
- Does your guitar sound as good with the preamp as it does without it?

Thanks!
David

Hi David,
I haven't tried my K&K mini's (I just installed them today) through my T1 yet but I have A/B'd
it through my Fishman LoudBox. First I went straight into the amp and then through the Pure XLR preamp into the amp. Maybe it's just me...but I believe I get a better sound straight in. The pickups are plenty hot and sound quiet good. I'll try the T1 tomarrow and let you know. Hmmm! I wonder if I can return the preamp!! Razz Thanks, Mark

Hi David
I've finally A/B'd through my L1 and honestly can't say that the K&K s sound better or worse though the Pure XLR preamp. I think that I prefer "with" but only because it allows quick control of volume and eq. The K&K s sound great either way...especially through my L1M2

Hey David,

I just ran across your thread here. I was hoping the T1 would eliminate the need for a pre for ya? I’ve found my Mustapick Semi Bari (tuned down a full step to D) with K&K mini’s sounds much better through a K&K pre. I’ve tried several settings on the Bose L1, a Baggs pre and a Yamaha MX8 mixer. Nothing came close to the sound through the K&K pre. Maybe it’s the guitar design, but I had a bit of trouble, even with the K&K pre, getting enough string sound. I tried to go dual source to solve the problem. It was more than I wanted to deal with so I went back to just mini’s and the K&K pre. Someone mention trying the Aplex 1401 Acoustic Xciter. I got to say this really worked for me. The guitar sounds better than ever. I have to turn it off when using my 12 though. Too much shimmer.

Hope this helps
