Ok guys, help me here... This stuff is way over my head. I guess I've been reasonably fortunate to have worked with decent knowledgable sound techs over the years...yep...one more mouth to feed, but they always knew how to get the max out of the gear. Sure, we (bands) still had our grief from time to time, but I never panicked unless they were late for the gig ( even after a great sound check at rehersal, [in the venue of course]). Part of my decision to buy the T1 with my L1M2 was the presets. My thinking was, "Great! There's a preset for my Taylor." "Push a button or two and then get on with the business at hand....making music. Indeed! But, ya know?..I've heard my guitar sound better. My main squeeze is a 12 year old 710 ce with the Fishman. Man! all those options for error. I've been running pretty much flat eq on the Fishman and getting a somewhat acceptable sound. I fear that my ignorance in all that frequency/filter/bandwidth stuff is keeping me from squeezing all the nectar out of this system. I can usually twist knobs with the best of them and have gotten reasonably successful results. However, I really don't completely understand what it is that I'm doing to accomplish this, not to mention that I have inconsistent results. I feel almost certain that the shortcomings in my acoustic sound are likely due to the Fishman preamp. I don't mean to bad mouth the Fishman...I'm just thinking that optimizing it is a bit beyond my expertise. I did stick a condenser mic in front of the 710 with the appropriate T1 setting and WOW!! I've still much to learn of my new L1M2 and it has lived up to my expectations to this point and I'm sure that it will continue to. Does anyone here have anything to offer that might help milk a little bit more of that wonderful woody acoustic tone out of my set up? Thanks! |

Hi Tonehead,
Have you tried the Taylor Presets? I specifically these ones? Category: Taylor Guitar Preset: Dreadnought Strum Category: Taylor Guitar Preset: Dreadnought Finger While you are experimenting - you probably want to try the other Taylor Guitar Presets. Looking back over your posts, I couldn't quite figure out if you are playing solo or in a band, and whether or not you are singing as you play. Your choice of Presets and other settings might be influenced by whatever else happening as you are playing. I tend to go for a brighter guitar sound when playing with others, and make other choices when I'm playing solo, and even then I may tweak and change things depending on what range I'm in vocally. |

Hello ST,
I had tried the two Taylor presets that you mention and for now I've settled on the Taylor Dreadnought Finger preset. Even when I use a flat pick this one seems to suit me the best. I'll have to try the other Taylor presets as you have suggested. I am presently moving toward the solo route. This is new for me although I have played a few tunes here and there from time to time, sitting in on the gig of a solo pal, but not "just me, solo" for the entire gig. I have fronted over the years as the only vocalist & guitar (ie 3 piece)but this solo thing is a different matter...you know...nothing and no one to hide behind. I'm working on my repertoire and learning tunes that I've loved over the years (in the charts) as well as a few obscure ones. Nothing is booked as yet and I have quite a ways to go. I don't plan to get the horse before the cart, so I won't try to rush things (booking solo) until my confidence with my sound has peaked...not to mention my confidence with me and my abilities. I can scratch that picking itch (playing out as a hired gun... (sideman), until I'm ready for solo, so as to not rush things. All that said to say that solo is my intention although duo and maybe even trio from time to time is a possibility but that depends on many variables, as I'm sure you well know. Money ain't everything but it pays the rent. |
