Guild Acoustic Modle Serial #: DD00986 Made by: Guild Music Made at:Westerly, RI 02891 (that's what it says on the old sticker inside the base of the guitar well besides the "made by and Made at") This guitar I had gotten from my father and I assume it is older then 1968, but I am not sure. I am trying to determine A. Whether my guitar is classified as an antique or vintage guitar and what the criteria for either might be. B. What its value would be C. What would be a good asking price and D. The best place to offer it for sale. E. What year would this be?

Hi This_Guitar_Guy - I actually have a mid 60's Guild D40 too. Several years ago, I wanted to know the history of mine, so I tracked down Guild's phone number and gave them a call. They were unbelievably helpful and friendly, and told me anything I wanted to know about the guitar, just from its serial number. They even informed me that I had one of the "good" years where there were only a few hundred hand made by artisans, compared to the following year where there were thousands mass produced on assembly lines. I would definitely recommend giving them a call - if their customer service hasn't changed over the years, you'll be happy you did.

Guild is now owned by Fender. The records may or may not be still available at customer service. When I was in the pawn business I let several good, older, Guilds slide through my hands. One in particular was purchasd by a matronly lady just learning to play. She was skeptical of the value of the instrument, but I was firm on my price. I still see her occasionally on Saturday morning at Hardy's eating breakfast. I always ask about buying it back. She always refuses. Good to see you out and about g-j. O..
