So, I have heard through the grapevine that I'm getting a DPA miniature shotgun mic for Christmas (thanks Stu!). I envision myself coupling it with a pickup for cutting power and added oomph. From the sound samples I've heard, this would work best IMO.

I use a T1 and a Voicelive 4. This basically means that I don't have any XLR inputs available for the guitar mic. Since I'm going from the 'master out' of the T1 into channel 2 of the Compact, do I have the option of feeding a separate mic into channel 1 of the Compact and mixing the signal in on the Compact itself? It seems like it would work.

In the long run, I may purchase the cord that allows a pickup and mic to be combined but until then I was wondering about this setup.

Hi Wayne,

Congratulations (except for the long wait).

Compact Channel 1 has a Preset built-in. (Vocal Microphone - Handheld Mics). You cannot turn that off.

I have had used the Compact Channel 1 with a condenser microphone (and external phantom power supply) for guitar and it works okay. I like the Guitar Preset on the T1® better though.

Sounds as though I'm buying it for you. I'd better start saving Smile

I'm not familiar with the VoiceLive unit. Is it a voice processor with an input for the vocal mic, and and output to the amp or PA, etc? If so, wouldn't you use one XLR input on the T1 for your vocal mic (going through the VoiceLive processor), and have two left over; one of which you'd use for your guitar pickup, leaving the third one available for the DPA microphone?

If you're referring to the DPA dual cable, it is not the type that combines two cable signals into one, it only carries two cables in a common sock wrapper...in an attempt to keep them together all neat and tidy. Here's a link to DPA's rather expensive ($200.00) cable assembly for the DPA4099. You can see that there are two separate cables wrapped up in the sock housing: DPA Special Double Cable assembly...

If you buy one of those type that combines the two signals into one input then you also won't have individual gain control over the microhone and pickup. That might or might not be an issue but it's something to consider.

I'll wish you a Merry Christmas ahead of time because it sounds like Santa's going to bring you nice gifts (well, one at least).

Stu
