Hello all, now this is totally new to me but
I have just purchased the L1 M11 with tonematch and the my Takamine acoustic guitar sounds terrible. I have run this guitar through a Bose 802 system for about 18 years and its sounded awsome. I would really appreciate it if you could all give me some tips or settings on how to get the best sound. At the moment it sounds very tinny and gutless. I have 2 gigs this weekend and would love to play it but if it sounds like this It wont be possible. Are there any updates available now? Thanks. Mark

Hi markgeelong,

Thank you for joining the forum.

Congratulations on getting your L1® Model II and T1®.

Please tell us what model Takamine you have, how you are connecting it to the T1® and anything you have connected in between.

If you are connecting to Channel 4/5 - please try Channel 1,2, or 3. It can make a big difference.

Also, what Presets have you tried?

There are Presets for specific Takamine Guitars (and many others) in the Downloads area in the wiki.

Specific Takamine models:

  • Takamine Natural series with Cool Tube Preamp
  • Takamine Supernatural series with Cool Tube Preamp
  • Takamine TC132SC nylon string with Cool Tube Preamp

First
If yours is not one of those listed above, then I would skip those for now, take a run through all of the Acoustic Guitar Presets, and the Taylor Guitar Presets too.

Hi ST
Thanks for your reply.
My mistake, I hadn't plugged the sub in properly and it sounds fantastic now.
I've been looking through the forum but I would really like to find the best settings for a Beta SM58 inc reverbs etc. Could you point me in the right direction. Thanks again.
Mark

Hi Mark,

Glad you got that sorted out. Easily done the first time round.

Use the Vocal Mics / Shure Beta 58 Preset.

If you can, get into a gig sized room and crank up the system to gig volume... do some of your regular songs. Do this without any effects.

I'll bet you are very pleasantly surprised at the sound of hearing yourself in the context of the room's natural reverb.

After you've had a chance to do that, take a crack at some of the effects - but do it sparingly.

These days I use NO reverb unless I'm covering a song that was drenched in reverb in the original version.

Try that out Mark. Please tell us what you hear and how you like it.

Thanks.

Hey ST,
It sounds awsome live and so easy to play with. I do need to add reverb though as it was way to dry without it. Thanks for your input.
Also should I need to do a software upgrade on the Tonematch at this stage and how would it benefit it? Thanks

Hi Mark,

What version level is your T1®?

  1. Turn the Rotary Selector to Prefs

  2. Press the first button

  3. Turn the first button until you see Versions
  4. Press the button

  5. The versions for the firmware will be displayed. The versions shown below are sample values.
See:T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine Firmware Updates for the latest firmware

  6. See:T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine Firmware Updates for the latest firmware

Right now the latest T1® firmware is 1.8.

What have you got?

Notes: What version of the T1® Firmware do I have?

Hey ST

Thanks for going through that. Mine is actually only 1.7 so I guess I should do an upgrade.

Thanks

Mark
