Any plans on adding jazz guitar presets? Just a couple of generic ones would be good (Gibson ES175, or the Ibanez jazz boxes). I know of a quite a few jazz guitarists who struggled with eq'ing the Ibanez Artist of the Country Gentleman preset with a less than desirable results.

Hi Ali, I agree, it would be nice to have some presets for some jazz guitars. Craig-at-Bose has invited requests like this and set up a special discussion thread.
See the full discussion. To give your idea the visibility it deserves, you might want to post it at the link above. What kind of Guitar(s) are you playing through your L1™ now? Have you tried the T1™?

I have played around with some jazz designed guitars, and I honestly think that a classic jazz tone from a well built instrument comes out best with Preset 00 (Classic/Model I) and "Flat" (T1/Model II). You can then use the zEQ section from there to make some modifications, but I haven't felt the real need to. Played an Ibanez Pat Metheny, a Gibson ES 175, and several others through that setting. Going to the actual guitar presets gets a more natural "straight into the board" sound, but I'm not sure it's what jazzers are after. Just my $.02, Kyle

I played around with all of the presets while playing my Heritage Golden Eagle archtop (single routed-in pickup, neck position). I finally settled on preset 55 (version 2 presets), the one for accordion (!). I'm still happier with the tone I get from my Polytone amp, but the Bose through preset 55 is pretty good. Mostly I'm using it for the sound dispersion and other sonic characteristics only the L1 can provide. I'll give the 00 (flat) preset another listen, though. --Rick

Hi Rick, BigKyle, I have added a note in the wiki about using presets 55 and 00 for Jazz Guitars. Presets (v2) Used By Owners (for inputs that are not on the list). Rick, I like 55 for sure. If you are into experimenting, I got some really nice results with the Taylor ToneMatch™ Presets (the ones you can load into a Classic or Model I). Follow the link to read more about them, or if you have a T1™ you already have them. I tried these with an ES 150, Howard Roberts Artist, Ibanez George Benson, and a nice solid top. Lots to like here.

Thanks, ST. I do have the Taylor ToneMatch Presets loaded and will audition them again. I like preset 55, but there's always room for improvement, no doubt.

Next time we do an owners conference in California, maybe we can talk Cliff into doing some custom presets. Also, have you mic'd your Polytone amp and run that through the L1 yet?

I'd also like a custom setting for my Gibson L5. A good 'ole Wes Montgomery sound would be nice, but I don't know how they'll get that big thumb and years of wood-shedding inside that little bitty tonematch box.

Hi Mike, Thanks for joining the forum. I have it on very good authority that Pat Metheny plays his L5 straight-in. No presets. I do this with mine. Sounds great. Have you tried it?

Thanks, the strait in sound, or flat, seems to give me the best sound. Has anyone tried to us a wireless unit with it? I have an AKG Guitarbug and get a distorted sound. I tried a new one and it distorted too. I need this wireless capability for my high school guitar classes.

Hi Mike,
What channel are you using on the T1®. I would probably use Channel 4 or 5. You want to be sure that the Trim light does NOT go red. You want to have a good solid green signal with occasional flickers of yellow. These pictures show Channel 1, but as I mentioned above, I would use Channel 4 or 5. The input sensitivity is probably better suited to the receiver. If you are seeing flickers of red, turn down the trim. For more detailed notes see: T1® Gain Staging.
This is troubling.

Hi again Mike, Do you have the AKG Guitar Bug with WM40 Receiver? If so, then you could also use T1® Channels 1,2,3 with an XLR connection but you would want to set the output to Microphone level. Here is an excerpt of the manual. ![]()

Hi again Mike, Another concern might be frequency at which your system operates. I couldn't find anything from AKG, but here is a link to a page at shure.com where they talk about the DTV channels and frequencies that may be a problem. http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/us_pro_ea_dtv and here is another excerpt from the WM 40 manual showing the frequencies at which it operates. ![]()

Wow, great responses and much appreciated. I'll try all those when I get back to school on Tuesday. The system I have is an AKG WMS 40 Pro UHF system which uses the SR40 single receiver. I tried using a 1/4" to 3-prong mic cable, but didn't set to "mic" setting. I did have less distortion with "gen processor" setting but still not acceptable. I was careful about over modulation, so I don't think that is problem. Thanks again and I'll post my findings Tue. Mike

I don't have a Tone Match, yet. I use the L-1 Classic (but I do have plans to get a TM). The L-1 has good presets for 'jazz' guitars, even though jazz is really just a style, and not a guitar. I know many good jazz players that play on Strats, and Telles. I play a Gibson ES-135. The L-1 Mod 1 has great presets for Jazz Style guitars, such as : #30-ES 335/ES 345 #31-ES 335/345 with split-neck pick-up #32- Les Paul Gold-Top #33- Gretsch Country Gentleman (I love this one for classic country) #34-Ibanez Artist/Artcore #35-PRS Custom 22 I have some friends that play nylon-string acoustic guitar on , such as jazz, as well, such as the Django McCafferti. This setting works well for almost any acoustic: #42: Acoustic Guitar with Condenser Mic Rock on!

I didn't like any of the guitar presets so I use the modeling of my pedal and have no complaint with the tone I'm getting. I don't go through the T1 but directly into the base of the Model II. Randy
