Hey Gang

L1/B1/T1 owner.

I want to put a pick-up in my other guitar. Either an Undersaddle or Soundhole pickup.

This is/was my very first guitar I purchased back in 1979. It's still in really good shape. Go figure, I actually did something right and took care of this over the years. It's a Ventura - J200 copy. Actually sounds pretty incredible. I took it to a Guitar Center recently and compared it to a J200 they had hanging on the wall and the sales guys were pretty blown away at the sound. Asked me if I wanted to sell it! Anyway, Ventura was sued back in '82ish for blatantly copying Gibby's guitars, especially this one. Anyway, it will serve as my "other guitar" plus...like I said, its my very first box. It is a Maple back/sides guitar.

So are there any suggestions re. pick up type (undersaddle vs. Soundhole) or pick-up manufacturer (Martin, Fishman, etc?) in working with the Bose L1?

Thanks

Hazen

Hazen,
I use a Sunrise magnetic sound hole pickup in my Taylor 610 and in my Goodall Concert Jumbo. I run it through a Summit Audio TD-100 tube DI and then to my T1 and I love it! Good sound and pretty much feedback proof!

I have a Baggs Ibeam in my Mark Geiger Fingerstyle (profile photo), which is my main touring guitar. My backup has a Baggs Element. The Element flattens out the uniqueness of a given guitar, but it does give a great sound (use the Breedlove C25 setting). The Ibeam (with the Tonematch settings for Baggs) sounds just like my guitar and is simply fantastic; I have been very happy with it.

What happens when you give a pastor a guitar and teach him to sing? You get a Sermon in Song

Hi hazen,

I just came across this comparison of pickups - no info about how they sound but interesting to see the features.

Check this web site out. Doug Young pickup comparison's
Doug has done extensive testing. We're all searching for the holy grail of acoustic guitar tone. What works on one guitar may not be good on another. I'm very happy with the Fishman rare Earth Blend on my Breedlove 12. I have the K&K mini's on a Mustapick multi scale 6. It's good but I would like to find something better.

I have a Baggs Imix in two of my guitars and really like it. It consists of the ibeam and element which can be used in mono or stereo. I've experimented with runinng stereo out to two separate L1 systems and it sounds really nice and BIG. I had done the same type of thing with one of my taylors that has the expression system and the baggs in it. It's a pretty nice effect if you happen to have two systems.
Most of the time I use just one and blend the two pickups on the imix. Using the tone shaping of the T1 and some wisdom and recommendations from oldghm here on the board, I have come up with a really good sound from the Baggs.
