Rolled into Charleston, SC today for a trade show. I brought one L1, one T1 and 2 B1s, and my acoustic guitar. My drummer also attends this trade show, and he brought his e-hand drum and some percussion implements. We hoped to find a place to play an impromptu sort of jam session for the attendees of the conference - and we did! Basically - needed a place that we could set up and play a show for 50 - 100 people that are probably inclined to attend. These would be people off the street that the venue would not otherwise get. Not charging the venue anything - just doing it for the marketing value for the conference attendees. I scoured the downtown area today in the steady rain. Thought I had a deal done with the SouthEnd Brewery on Bay Street - until about ten minutes into the conversation - the mgr remembered that he had a booking already for Tuesday. Next I stopped at Wild Wing, and Brick, and a couple of other spots that I cannot recall. Everyone was doing trivia or had a DJ booked. Finally scored a deal at the last place on the list - Aromas on Market Street. Tonight I assembled a working set list and tommorrow we will be live in downtown Charleston. If you are in the area - please stop on by. The event is open to the public and is an open mic format. I would love to hear some of you play and sing. Starting around 8.
