I just got in from downtown key west.
Always looking for live music when i travel. Got lucky this time and heard two fine musicians. Both were using l1s. One had a classic and the other a compact. It was a very cool experience to be walking down the street and to be drawn in by good music and great sound. Upon entering, i noticed how clear and rich the sound was. As always, i started looking for the speakers of what was obviously a fine house system. I saw the large speakers hanging on each side of the stage then i glanced lower and saw it. All of that rich sound was coming from c.w. Colt's l1 compact! It was a gotcha moment, only i was the one who was gotten! What fun to see and hear l1s in action. I saw 3 musicians today and both l1s were much bettet than the house system used By the 3rd guy. Go bose!!! Rick |

Research & Development |
Hi Rick,
What a great story. I am always listening and when I hear really good sound I always hope it's from my company. When I hear bad sound I pray it isn't. On occasion I'll be really disappointed with the sound of a system that uses Bose speakers. I work to overcome my disappointment and find a way to correct the situation. This can be very challenging. If I hear a really great sound and find out it's from a system that uses another company's products, well, I tip my hat, and I think about why. One other thing: with each passing day, we're more likely to see L1 systems. They're selling really well, even in this awful recession, and they last a long long time. So that means that there's just more and more people using them, usually in public. It's enormously gratifying to come across one by chance. Thanks again for sharing this. Ken |

Speaking of Key West--- In Irish Kevins, next to Sloppy Joes on Duval street, they are using an L1 as an on stage monitor along with their house system.

Here in Newport, RI there is a summer series of concerts featuring great players such as John Hiatt, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Cray, etc. I saw Hiatt and the sound system was so loud and harsh I actually couldn't make out a darn word he was saying. I really like his music, too. But what a disappointment. Same thing with David Crosby a few years ago. I just can't help earulizing (you can't visualize sound...right?) what it would have sounded like with some nice, clear, full L1s facing the audience.

Some 10 days ago, late afternoon, I saw an L1 Classic (I think; might have been a Model I) in a small corner cafe in Waikiki ... there was a guitar case sitting nearby, but didn't have a chance to stop in or wait around to see who might be using it.
It wasn't there the next morning, so it didn't appear to be a 'house system'. Heard too many other players (mostly duos) at Waikiki restaurants who ought to have been using L1's rather than the house system! Most of those environments would have been appropriate for the Compact, too. |
