Hello All,
I just did a gig this Friday night using just the Compact straight in and no extensions. The Bar & Grill is about 40'x80' and holds about 100 people.I play this gig about once a month and have been using my Model II for about two years here. I pluggeg my Audix OM3 mic straight into Ch.1 at 12:00 on all knobs. My Tele guitar went into my Korg ToneWorks then into Ch.2 with TM switch on at 1:00 volume position.I ran backing tracks from my Jamman into the iPod input.End result was alot of compliments with about 50 people.Once it got filled up with 100 people I raised Ch.1 up to about 1:30 position. It was just starting to clip red very few times. It did the job.I got one gig out of this due to the fact this person needed an entertainer for a small house gathering. He could not believe how good everything sounded with just this little system. He had thought about hiring someone else but felt he could not accomidate their equiptment and footprint requirenments.Once it filled up with about 100 people I raised the mic vol. I got some more good compliments. The Compact was about 5 feet behind me and about 30 degrees to my left.I didn't get any mic feedback at anytime.I had good compilments on the guitar tone as well. I am attaching some pics taken with my wife's cell phone.I did try the guitar Ch.2 without the TM on , but I didn't like the sound. This Compact is truly amazing.Simplicity at it's finest. This first pic is before starting time showing stage area. |

Picture number three.See how the Compact disappears from this vantage point.Amazingly the people at the backwall about 40' away from this vantage point still heard me loud and clear in spite of me blocking the Compact. There was also three tables with people blocking the Compact.

Hello Ken,
I had intended to use the extensions after the place filled up,but it sounded so good that I just left it alone.I'm playing there again June 26th,so I will use the extensions then.I'm curios to hear if there is any sound difference.I don't understand how the sound can seem to go through me,unblocked. Amazing! As far as I'm concerned, you guys knocked it out of the ballpark with this design. No bells and whistles needed. Setup was so simple I kept thinking I was forgetting something. I plan to hookup my Jamman to the RCA inputs next time.Is there any sound difference between the iPod and RCA inputs?Volume or EQ? I love my T1 and Model II,but I believe this Compact is going to be the work horse. Thanks once again for this fantastic option - J.D. |

Had a great gig tonight with the compact. I played for a sr.adult banquet for 130 folks in a room that would seat around 150.
I used my trusty taylor with the baggs imix and a godin multiac nylon string. i used the flat setting on channel 2. the mic was a senn. 35. I was on a stage about 2 feet tall and had the compact about 3 ft. directly to my side. It worked great. During soundcheck which was very short, as usual, i recorded a couple of minutes of playing and singing from the line out directly to my edirol R-09. Then played it back through the mini plug on channel 2. I walked the room to check the coverage. It was great side to side and front to back. There were a few people in the room and it was funny to see them glance up at the stage while I was playing back the recording and realize that I wasn't there playing and singing. It really sounded live. This is really a great way to do a sound check if you have the equipment. The compact makes it sooooo easy to do. It was a very attentive crowd and the 45 min. program went very well, I thought. It is so much fun to play for seniors. I played more instrumentals than usual. They really seemed to like hearing some of Chet's old songs. Got paid well and sold a lot of cds. There was only one problem. Setup was a breeze, but it took forever to tear down the system and get back to the car. A big group of folks were totally blown away by the compact and wanted a more extensive demo. I hate it when that happens. HA!!!!! I am really loving the compact and will be using it more and more. I did try it in a much bigger room that was very noisy where we were supposed to be background music. It didn't fare quite as well. If the crowd had been quiet, it would have done fine. I also used it as my stage system in a 1300 seat room that was full. The line out to the house worked perfectly and I had my normal Bose sound so everybody was happy. For my money, Bose rules!!!! Hello rwj,
Great report.Did you use your extensions at the sr.adult banquet? I am glad you also reported about the line out to the house system.I am doing a July 4th gig that will require me to line out to my Mod II system outside of the Pub I will be playing in.The Pub is small so I'll use the Compact in there. Also it's airconditioned. The gig is in the afternoon so it will be plenty hot outside.I like the simplicity of not having to use the T1 also.Just set it and forget it.Your real life experience doing this assures me.Thanks again - J.D. |

Hi J.D.
I started the soundcheck with just one extension and that put it right at ear level of the folks who were seated. It seemed a little loud for the front tables so I added the 2nd extension and that seemed to be better. The line out to the house system is a breeze. I used the Taylor 1/4 inch balanced to the xlr balanced cable that came with my taylor expression system and it worked great. You can use a standard unbalanced instrument cable but I think you get a little more gain from the balanced. Good luck on your gig. Please tell us how it worked out. The compact really is so simple to use. Tom, it's hard not to smile when you are making music for a really nice crowd of attentive listeners. The Bose lets you forget about the sound and just concentrate on the music. What fun! Rick |
