I previously owned a Yamaha digital mixing board, two JBL powered subs, and two high packs with a fifteen, horn, and tweeter. This was wired to six JBL monitors. The subs were near eighty pounds and the high packs were about seventy.
I recently scrapped it all for four bose L1 model 2 systems with two subs per L1 except for bass where I used 4. My setup time went from a back breaking one and 1/2 hours to about twenty five effortless minutes. I use nearly thirty less cables which is amazing. I don't carry anything over twenty pounds other than a Kurzweil keyboard. I can set up one system in about three minutes and if I add an instrument it is just under five minutes and that is if I am taking my time.
I first used the system at an outdoor festival. There were two electric guitars, bass, and keyboard. We also miked the kick drum and snare. There were three vocalists. It took less than two minutes or about 1/2 a song to complete a sound check. I had so much time left, that I was actually bored for an hour before we played. I got there way to early.
Frankly, this system rocks the house down. This was actually an outdoor gig and I was worried about having enough bass. Not a problem. Make sure you have one column per instrument AND buy the two or four bass systems. I actually planned to buy a fifth one for the drums, but just didn't get around to it. This sound is pristine and with the tone match module, takes a lot of the trial and error out of setting up. I use a boss gt 10 straight into the L1 without an amp on the guitar general processor setting and the sound is incredible. The different tone match settings make a huge difference. Finally, this is the best keyboard amp that I have ever owned and I have owned multiple boutique amps.
I am amazed at the L1. If these are used properly they will compete with any traditional system with respect to volume and bass; however, the sound is much more clear than a traditional system and each instrument is more distinct and less muddy. The band and crowd thought the sound was great. I saw/heard video clips of us playing and couldn't believe it.
