In a word; fantastic.
The setting; a small pub back room lounge with soft furnishings, awkward bar projection halfway down the room. It was an open mic night with lots of different guys doing different sorts of material from monologue to rock n roll on acoustic guitars. The previous PA comprised Wharfedale speakers and a Behringer stereo 400+400 mixer amp. I have always ben very pleased with the performance of this PA. It was difficult to find space for the speaker stands in the small room. Also, one speaker was effectively facing a wall by the projecting bar. The sound was loud and clear, but it dropped off dramatically towards the back of the room due to people being in the way etc. The tonal characteristics also varied depending on where you stood - it could sound muddy in some places. The Bose was easy to position, giving more room for the musicians. The sound quality was strange compared to anything that I have heard before, in that it never sounded loud as such, but wherever you stood in the room, you could hear it 'loud and clear'. Voices and instruments were especially clear and well articulated. After a few numbers I was able to optimise the level of reverb and delay. I'm sure as times go on and I use the system in other venues I'll learn a lot more about it. But certainly, so far so good! moved to At the Gig and Rehearsal forum This message has been edited. I have used the system again since that report.
Also on the bill this time was a very good female singer who had a 1200W PA and used music files for backing. On occasions (it was that sort of gig!), she also sang through my Bose. Whilst her PA was loud and punchy with lots of apparent 'volume', when she sang through the Bose, her voice was MUCH more natural. That's something I like about the Bose, it is very natural sounding. Q: Have Bose corrected the output from the speaker system by using a sophisticated digital eq system to get a very flat response? It seems that way to me. Conventional PA systems just rely on the speakers being as flat as possible - which more often than not, is like a camel's back. The small units used by Bose must also be peaky on their own, which again suggests some internal tonal correction using sophisticated electronics is going on. Anyone know for sure? |

Thanks for the report SteverUK.
Nothing like a side-by-side comparison to let this kind of thing come to light.
We have a note in the wiki about using the T1® without an L1®. This speaks to the differences between voicing of the L1® and other systems. Although this is not a direct response to your question I hope it will give you some insights that you will enjoy. Please see: T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine without L1® |

Hi SteverUK,
Do you mean a link to the article? The two last lines of my post above are: Please see: T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine without L1® Or did you mean something else? |
